How to disable auto-join of fates

I'm very new to the game. I'm trying to do mission chains to level and have problems when I happen to impinge upon a fate and get sucked into it, especially when it overlaps with my mission area. I have no desire to do fates at this time. It's disrupting, and if I do join the battle I typically end up dead because the enemies just keep coming and I have limited healing abilities.

How do I disable the auto-join functionality? Or disable fates entirely? I've looked around and haven't found a way to do so.

There is no such functionality.
Either take part in the FATE, or wait until it is over. Most FATEs can be soloed, but it takes some practice to avoid fighting too many enemies at once. Moving out of the area of the FATE will stop them from attacking you, so that can be done if you are in trouble.


Once you are five or more levels higher than the FATE you will have to sync your character to take part in the FATE. At this point, if you do not sync your character you can pretty much ignore the FATE.
