well, according to this, which is based on this Yoshida's 5th businesses division is now the 3rd development division, and working on a new large scale game.
(Now, before you just assume this to be an April's fool joke, today is also the start of the new fiscal year, so restructurings like this would naturally happen today.)

worst scenario for us if true is probably XIV bleeding dev power to this new game again

Maybe a remaster of FFXI or another MMORPG (FFXVI)? Who knows?

When its going to be another online FF, I hope they will make it possible to transfer our characters into the new game.

I dont think they will let FFXIV bleed out, because its the most money generating game so far (if I m not mistaken).

If it was possible, then it'd mean it's basically the same game. At that point there would be zero reason to even make it. So no...there'd be no transfer.

It's not. I'm pretty sure that the item mall heavy mobile games generate more revenue at a lower upkeep cost. In comparison to this game, they have far more incentive for spending money on them. You can literally buy power there. And game time costs exponentially more there than here (since they use the energy system...).

If this isn't legitimate news, they're opening themselves up to a security fraud case. April 1st is the start of the Japanese fiscal year, and Yoshida was promoted to the board of directors a year ago today. It's supposed to be a "new core title," which makes me think it's XVI if it's a Final Fantasy game.

I honestly think it's time for XIV to get some new blood anyway... At the very least have him be Producer or Director, not Producer and Director... Coming up to the third expansion now, and the patches content has become predictable to a fault.

Its probably the next ff MMO. Given these things take 5-6 years to make, by the time its ready ffxiv will be 10+ years old.

I recall Yoshida himself saying in an interview that he'd like to pass one one of his 2 positions, also Yosuke Saito flat out asked to join the XIV dev team and eventually become the producer in a video message during the last anniversary stream, so I have some hope that him being a guest dev for the new 24 man is a test run for that

It's already turning 9 this year. 1.0 released in 2010.
