    Mr Happy interview with Yoshi-P

    So mr happy had a recent interview with Yoshi-P and here was something about the healers that help alleviate fears but does put things in a new direction

    When looking at this history of healing jobs. Making strong balance between three jobs it has been tough. With three its been tough, so with a 4th the balance might get even worse. Instead of doing this, we want to prioritize balancing them better this expansion so we didn’t want to add a new healer at 4.0 or 5.0. We really think we need to restructure the way healers are handled. We can’t keep this strict division between pure healer and barrier healer. Something needs to change here so we can maintain good balance. Thats the main reason we didn’t have a healer. First priority was to add a 3rd ranged, then a 4th tank while we balance the healers better.

    This is going to be a wait and see for me.

    I'm not particularly excited at the idea of homogenized healers, I think that's the cheap way out and they should instead change their hard approach of making all healers equal in all content. How they go from here is going to be key, but unfortunately SE has demonstrated time and time again that healers are their weak spot so I'm expecting to be disappointed.

    all roles need to be equally viable. otherwise why even have multiple jobs at all? if one healer was good and the other two were trash why would anyone ever pick the other two? and why would any time be put into developing said trash healers then?

    At the moment, role requirements for a limit break keep the other two viable. Although I don't think "two are trash", it's more "two are viable". And the least viable is the one that never gets picked, because meta.

    The problem is like this: You have three options for lunch: And apple, a pear + some cherries, and an apple-pear + a banana.

    SE takes the Apple, the pear and the apple-pear, weighs them and says "Yep, looks good. All the same." but the players look at it like... well... why would I just take the apple when I can get an apple-pear *and* a banana? Or I could have a pear *and* cherries. Then SE looks at the apple and says, "Hmmm... maybe we need to remove the leaf and peel."

    On homogenization:

    Well, the DPS are already homogenized. 95% of their buttons either do damage, help them do more damage, or help others do more damage, and only 5% is unique. Yes I'm leaning alot out on purpose, but why can't we take the things I left out and give that to healers.

    Let them have a few things of their own, but the major thing that is different between the jobs is the rhythm they play at. Scholar has a bit of this thanks to Arcanist, but expand it. Give WHM the innate flavor that they were lacking. Make AST cards a true job defining mechanic.

    Probably harder to implement than it would be for DPS, but that's my pie-in-the-sky dream.

    You're being so reductive of DPS jobs and all of their nuances that it's silly; at that level, every job in the game is homogenized, role or no.

    As far as giving healers stronger identity, I think that's their goal. They said it themselves: we have barrier healer and pure healer, and this divide is untenable for bringing any more healers to the game. Hopefully they take some steps to amend that.

    Indeed, that was on purpose, to bring to mind everything I left out. In fact, concerning those nuances, I want them to be brought over to healers. Perhaps I could have been more clear

    If this is in response to my comment then you’re misunderstanding me. Some healers can be good on some encounters but not as good on others and vice versa. Not an issue at all, actually helps create healer diversity.
