Au ra are vary inhuman.... you know the race your playing...the thing that I get is his mentions fans wanting a more animalistic/beast race, but in almost every MMO they make up a small minority of the playerbase (as low as 2% in some games) and that's with having them from release and not having to pay to race change or re-lvl and put yourself behind.
So from a game development standpoint it doesn't make sense unless they believe they can create a beast race that everyone and their mother is going to love and that will have more player then the potential for male Viera. ( know a lot of people who enjoyed the race in 12 and A2 who wanted to know what the males looked like, so it's chance not only to get those currently playing that are interested, but those who aren't)
@Quizotic
I think the point of a beast race even if not the most played is that it fills a void FFXIV had, pretty boy viera fills no void. Viera Male /will/ be played if available though, so I think it's worth making too. Just that for those who wanted beast at best they only had comprise options at worst they had no options (thus I call it a void), meanwhile if you wanted pretty man and you feel like you can't make one right now then I'd have to say we must be playing different games lol. To be clear though I do think we should want to see both races unlocked as it would be cool and set world balance, but personally am glad Hrothgar became a thing.
Yes and I hope that the community watches the video or reads his interview which can be found here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGezcBuu-mc
fairly happy with yoshida's responses to his questions.
what about everyone else?
Interviews are considered official statements... as for a post on the forum I believe during the interview he said he is most likely going to make one on here. And if you read the interview he doesn't say no nor does he say yes. It is a possibility for the future.
I guess that thing that really worries me with said beast race is from what I can gather from the statements given they were already in development before Viera were on the table.@Quizotic

where they not confident enough in their work to say "let's finish this race (male and female) and give them bunnys (male and female) next expansion?
In regards to Races, I know I've seen people asking for something akin to Ronso so it was out. And it does make since in terms of development stand point. It was also refreshing to hear them finally admit their meta on healing (one pure healer) isn't work with what the community is doing. It will be interesting to see how they go about changing WHM and AST considering those are the two jobs at each extreme. Also good to see Yoshi-P admit it might not be a good idea to keep things so secret.
Well as the interview said, the community really wanted Viera before HW. It was a way for them to try and give the community both sides without hurting the development team in the process.I guess that thing that really worries me with said beast race is from what I can gather from the statements given they were already in development before Viera were on the table.

I agree with this too, Hrothgar do fill a niche that none of the other races (or male viera) do. I just think deciding to genderlock it and release it alongside viera was a mistake just because viera is such a fan favorite race to begin with. They had to know people were going to want males and females of it, so people are going to feel slighted even if that wasn't the intent. It was pretty much a repeat of the miqote situation all over, since people from FF 11 were already fans of mithra to begin with and wanted a male counterpart.@Quizotic

Btw though, I always appreciate your replies to things. They're always thoughtful and well-intentioned. :3
This is the response I posted on the youtube video. Copy and pasting it here.
I think these are really good questions and I really liked some of the answers. Still not happy with their decision to do 2 incomplete races instead of 1 complete race but I think I can understand their reasoning. Hopefully they will considering adding the other gender's in the future.
Still mildly angry that Gunbreaker is a tank and not a DPS but DNC uses chakrams so... woot. What he says about healer jobs seems to make sense but I don't play them so I hope healers get lucky with the reworks.
Not happy with his answers on Eureka or BLU mage but that's because I wasn't happy with either. I'd rather not have anymore limited jobs and I would really like the new relic weapon "not" be locked behind the new Eureka content. I hope they would make Eureka an option to getting the relic, even can be the fastest method to get it if necessary, just not the only option.
I think it would be cool to have the 8 man normal mode raids part of the story, but how do you do it? Do you have to beat the Main Quest each patch before you can do the 8 man raid? Do you do the 8 man raid before the MSQ? Then you also have the High End Raiders. If you make it so you do the MSQ then the raid you would need to make it so Savage raiders can do the raid right out of the gate regardless of completion of the MSQ... I see that being a really difficult decision.
Glad Mr. Happy actually asked tough relevant questions.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Healers aren't happy (well, some are not at least... it is never wise to speak for a whole or even a portion... I will say I speak for myself and have noticed several in the thread echoing similar sentiments), for the most part, but we're discussing it more in-depth in another thread...
Healers have been in a tough spot for awhile. We've been told for two expansions now that we are 'being balanced' and have NOT been. And now the past several interviews I have seen the comments have been 'make WHM easier' and 'nerf SCH' and now this... it leads me, at the very least, to be VERY worried about where the Healing class is going to be headed. I'm NOT feeling all that comfortable, really. It doesn't feel like the dev team knows what they want OR how the PLAYERS are playing things. While HE might have a 'vision' of things, that doesn't always translate into how the players are actually playing the game. And sometimes that doesn't always turn out for the best. But we'll have to just wait and see.
