Why stop there? There's nothing forcing you to bring that many dps in the first place. Why not 3 tanks, 3 healers, 2 dps? Or once Shadow launches go ham with 4 tanks, 3 healers and whichever dps you want.Dancer was added to the ranged DPS and one of the reason for that is because we have only 2 of them.
So Yoshida and many players state that a sub-role DPS have the same importance as healers and tanks.
But why then, sub-role are not restricted in party ?
DPS spots must be separated now as sub-role spot.
Il will let the 4 man party aside, but for the 8 man party the restriction should be :
- 2 tanks
- 2 healers
- 2 melee dps
- 1 ranged dps
- 1 caster dps
If you are not agree, then sub-role dps is not as important as healer and tank, and so ranged dps shouldn't had the priority to get another job over the healers.

I Tank, Heal , and DPS and honestly I can live with the decision While I prefer healing (Gods I love healing) I can see the need for a fourth tank Especially if in so doing it eliminates the No we dont want that tank job go level one of the others that happened early on in Stormblood. A tank should be able to be welcome in whatever group they join regardless of flavor choice. Healers having played WHM SCH and AST I can say that all in all while we're also at that point that tanks were. (Everyone and thier Uncle wants AST over WHM) Don't quite have it as bad considering that WHM is almost ALWAYS wanted for Progression content until it becomes farmland at which point SCH and AST are the more viable choices. DRK was outright not wanted in any raid or trial content this entire expansion.
DPS while more numerous is that way for a reason most new players are going to flock to DPS classes until they get comfortable and once they find that "perfect" Fit they're likely to stay with that fit until they master it and crave a new challenge. Sometimes they might even try their hand at Tanking or Healing. More than likely tanking for those precious precious company seals While all of the tanking classes are fun ( I love DRK ) The players going to likely feel pretty crappy when they spend all that time leveling to endgame only to be told yeah dont want you bring one of the other two next time. So if the tanks are balanced out (DRK really needs it they're like damage magnets with no sponge to soak) maybe there will be more players who enjoy tanking thus alleviateing the burden on queue times (which are pretty ridiculous at some points for DPS)
As to the new DPS more variety means new ways of learning something fun (and more chance of seeing the run speed spell getting used) and new ways of incorporating new strategies into combat which is win for everyone.
I never said they weren't different. Of course they play differently. But they're still undeniably DPS.
"but the devs split them like that!!!" I don't care. It's a poor justification for ignoring healers.
They have cited balance again for reasons of no healer, but they've struggled to balance BRD/MCH and they're getting a new job added to their sub-role of a sub-role that has the same importance as the supports.
They struggled with the tanks until a ways into the expansion and they're getting a new job for the mind-boggling reason that 4 tanks are easier to balance than 3. But healers? All of a sudden, balance is ABSOLUTELY PARAMOUNT.
It's a joke.

Lol well believe what you want, it happened. I'm inclined to believe devs know more about what the game needs than you. I'm sure it feels bad for healers, but everyone has their own point of view and the two groups that got new jobs had just as much reason to get one. I personally don't main healer or ranged dps, I'm just sick of people using faulty logic in their arguments.I never said they weren't different. Of course they play differently. But they're still undeniably DPS.

Just because it doesn't always succeed at even matching, doesn't mean it doesn't try to do it at all.
The DF most certainly DOES try to make evenly distributed parties. It tries to get 2 different tanks, 2 different healers, at least 1 melee, 1 caster, and 1 ranged in an 8-man party. And while it could adhere strictly to this, it doesn't, because then queue times would be insanely long. The DF has to take into account other variables such as wait time and then balance between them.

I remember people quite often demanding certain roles within DPS category for their parties. For example Ranged Physical, aka Bard, has been quite needed due to their ability to refresh TP/MP. So even if they aren't technically called support in-game, they heavily focus on it. Heck, Bard even used to have healer Limit Break.
Also I've been "maining" AST since they introduced it, and I'm not angry about incoming jobs. But that's probably since I came from MMORPG where you were locking to one class on said character, so FFXIV offers nice variety when you feel like it. Would I have liked to get new healer job? Sure. But we also need to keep in mind that expansion will re-work jobs somewhat, so they aren't going to play exactly like today.
Unfortunately for you whether you care or not the classification schema is set by SE. They have separated the dps up into sub categories. It’s just a fact of FFXIV life unless they change it. You don’t have to like it or agree with it. You do have to accept it, though, because it will drive their decision making.I never said they weren't different. Of course they play differently. But they're still undeniably DPS.

A new healer would have been great asI love my casters and healers, but they chose ranged physical dps. Also, players need to keep in mind we have a combat revamp coming up. One or more of the healers could be redesigned. It happened to the bard twice which drastically changed it’s playstyle. Be patient. See what happens.

Combat revamp happens every expansion tho, so it's not really something that healers specifically look forward in place of a new healer. It'd happen regardless new healer coming or not.
Also I doubt they will completely redesigned the current healers, since the amount of works will just be similar with adding a new healer.
