Buying Expansions?

I'm a new player here and I saw videos of Dark Knight, I found out it's locked through another expansion, which is understandable. Also I've seen Au Ra, and I love them as well and would love to play as one.

I plan to continue playing the game enough to figure out whether I like it or not, and then decide to purchase it, but I'm very curious about the expansions.

I read somewhere that you have to have a DLC for the Au Ra, This kinda confused me and I was wondering if you buy the most current expansion, does the DLC come with it? How do you even get the DLC how does this work at all? Do I need to buy all expansions or can I just buy the most current one then the DLC?

Any help and clarifications would be greatly appreciated, thank you :>

Assuming you bought the "complete collection" you should have it available already. To clear things up, I'll just go through expansion and what they added.

Heavensward (which you cannot buy anymore, its standard as part of the "complete collection" or gets added to your account upon purchase of Stormblood)

- Dark Knight, Astrologian and Machinist
- Au Ra races

Stormblood (our current expansion until July)

- Samurai and Red Mage
- No new race

It also depends on where you bought it. I have the game on Steam, only Steam purchases work on my account. If you bought a retail version of the game it will all be MogStation based - speaking of which it should tell you which expansions you have on that page too.

Either way, if you didn't get the complete collection and have the starter edition, all you should need to do is purchase Stormblood and Heavensward will be included - giving you everything we have available in the game currently.

I haven't purchased the complete collection, I used the twitch prime offer to get 30 days for free to try the game out. So I'm assuming if I buy the complete collection I'll get the new race, and classes?

Starter Edition: ARR (2.x) only

"The Expansions" - Each new expansion subsumes the old ones, so as soon as a new one comes out it should be considered "the only expansion".
Heavensward: (3.x) obsolete, included in Stormblood. Unlocks Au ra race and MCH DRK AST jobs.
Stormblood: (4.x) reaching obsolescence, included in Shadowbringers. Must be bought by itself if you want access to story or jobs before Shadowbringers early access. Unlocks RDM SAM jobs.
Shadowbringers: (5.x) available for preorder, includes Heavensward and Stormblood, but will not grant access to HW/SB until Shadowbringers early access. Unlocks Viera and Hrothgar races, DNC and Gunbreaker jobs. Preordering grants early access five days before official launch.

Complete Edition (current, pre-Shadowbringers): Currently 2.x-4.x; if bought before Shadowbringers launch, only includes up to Stormblood.
Complete Edition (Shadowbringers): 2.x-5.x; however you cannot play the game at all until Shadowbringers official launch. Not eligible for early access.



So, if you already have the base game (Starter/2.x) and you're interested in Au ra or DRK, and you want to play it before July, you need to buy Stormblood or the Complete Edition, whichever is cheaper (probably Stormblood). If you want to wait until July so that you're not paying for both Stormblood and Shadowbringers, you can buy just Shadowbringers, but you won't get access to content from any of the expansions until Shadowbringers launch, as the earlier expansions are not pre-order bonuses; they are a consequence of "all the expansions" being sold as one under the new expansion name once it comes out.
