Information on why the devs didn't include Viera Male/Hrothgar Female

If they were to confirm that they didn't have the time to complete them both, and that they will be finishing both races at a later date, I think most people will be satisfied. I don't think any reasonable person is demanding this be fixed in time for Shadowbringers launch as we know that's simply not a reasonable expectation. Some want to see the races completed before 6.0, but I think if we know that they hope to have it completed in time for a 6.0 launch, people will be content.

Given how things exploded here regarding the lack of choice versus a choice they just might not have liked, I think it's fair to say that yes, people will complain, but that there would be less of an uproar than if they choice simply doesn't exist. You can see in the thread regarding what people wanted from male viera that people went the whole gammut of some wanting more muscular, fierce looking male characters with body types similar to the male au ra or male highlanders while others wanted something much more simlar to the females being more slender and graceful, and still others basically wanting lalafels with bunny ears. If/when they finish off the races and add in the other sexes, I think viera will upset at least half of the people looking forward to them simply because they didn't get the look they wanted.

Likely this will be less so with Hrothgar women since we already know what female ronso look like, so there is less speculation as to how they will look if/when they are added to FFXIV.

The Director in that interview implied between the lines that the counterparts can be considered IF they have time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Get it? (They have to meet shareholders profit too) so to unsubscribe is just a way of not getting it.

Actually, the only thing that shareholders care about is money so if they lose money because SE half-assed their new race options then unsubscribing is the best way to make your voice heard.

People just need to relax and have reasonable expectations so it's not necessary for them to keep saying resources aren't unlimited.
Following this expansion reveal if there is now overwhelming demand for male viera and female hrothgar they can consider the feedback and begin to prepare for meeting the request.

They do implement things fans want quite a lot but we should expect to have to wait a long time for something so resource intensive, and at least give them time to have a meeting about it before they can prepare a statement.
They've been busy doing fan fest dev panels and stuff, then there's a lot to do back at work for pushing out these patches while still working on the expansion.

They need to be careful with the wording on any statement they prepare and first assess what they are able to do because everyone flips out if they don't honor promises to the letter.

Q: When did you decide to implement the female-only Viera and male-only Hrothgar?

A: It was during Return to Ivalice, around 3 months after 4.0. Viera was confirmed then, and Hrothgar came about at the same time when we were discussing plans with Matsuno-san. We were deciding whether to make a Hrothgar female or a Viera female, and after selecting Viera, work began right away, because otherwise we wouldn't make it in time. As mentioned before, the face parts are special and Hrothgar has big differences between its faces, like a lion face, wolf face, leopard face. It became a fixed model relatively recently. Viera was done right before Paris Fan Fest, and Hrothgar was done recently.

Points to the inference that they were in a time/cost crunch when developing the races.

People freaking the hell out about the lack of counterparts, you can unclench your intestines now.

Sadly this won't satisfy those that feel they are personally being attacked because they can't play male bunnies. They just need to realize that a video game doesn't need to mirror real life.

Call me crazy, but having female Viera and male Ronso is better than just Viera. I personally like the Ronso way more, couldn't care less about the Viera. Didn't like Fran, always thought that race was kinda ridiculous. Yoshi probably tried to be fair and thought well 2 races are better than one. Also, maybe 2 races were necessary for the story and the overworld zones and the lore of the expansion. People are too quick to judge.

Some of the people in this thread can try to defend square enix all they want, but the bottom line is that their poor decision making ended up disappointing a lot of people.
