I hate to get in the way of a good forum firestorm but..

I know people are upset, but no healer and gender-locked races are not going to change for release no matter how much you complain on the forums. These decisions are made and locked in, the development cycle is past the point where these things would be implemented and on top of all that, Square isn't going to cave to forum pressure, it's just not in their nature. Yoshida has made his choices, I know not everyone agrees with them, but as the game director they are his choices to make. Maybe we get a mid expansion healer like we got NIN, maybe in 6.0 they unlock the races, but regardless nothing is being done on the forums with this firestom other than just shouting over each other.

They plan things well in advance. Looking at response times from patch to patch, easily a solid two patches at least. You're right in that regard.

However, complaints have affected their decisions, particularly when they last very long.

What we need is a deluge of complaints for at least 14 months (four patches), basically. And even then that will bleed into 6.0 development.

Before they come up with plans to implement changes, they need to be pushed to make those changes.

Blame the devs for the firestorm. It's unique in the history of the game, so if they take notice, that's for the better. Let it burn.

Of course nothing is going to instantly change, they're on a schedule. But we'd like to get male bunnies sometime before 6.0, maybe a healer as well or at least a large rework. I imagine a re-work IS in the works, if nothing else.

I don't think it'll get fixed by 5.0, which is why I haven't preordered and won't buy ShB, and have cancelled my Automatic Subscription (the 6-months payment passed last week, I am not throwing that in the trash, but will unsub closer to 5.0). But I'm hoping it gets fixed a few patches in (5.4, maybe? with any luck, I'll be too busy with said Master's for 2 years and not even care about missing ShB) or in the next Expansion, in which case I'll have TWO x-pac content to care for, for the price of one, even!

A word from the devs about how they're aware of the issues would go a long way.

I don't think anyone expects them to fix this before Shadowbringers comes out. That's just unrealistic/delusional. There just isn't enough time left to make such a huge change. I think most peoples' goal is to get it fixed eventually. This stuff takes time. If it takes 14 months of complaining, so be it. We've held out for longer. :v

I just hope no one dies like at stonewall.

Yeah, I don't think people remember the very first Live Letter of Heavensward. They said something to the degree that they started working on the next expansion pack after their vacation they took after releasing Heavensward. These decisions are years in advance.

I'm sure a lot of those complaining will tire themselves out. A lot of us are already rolling our eyes at the more...unreasonable statements being thrown around. I think the gender lock is silly, though it isn't enough to prevent me from enjoying the upcoming expansion. There's also a new content patch in a mere two days, so hopefully the forum will focus on that once all the new juicy story details emerge.

I'm very much of the mind that those complaining don't need to make everybody miserable just because they didn't get what they desire. They can put their feedback in a single, constructive thread and increase the chance of the development team taking feedback on board instead of setting fire to the entire forum.

i mean the thing is it took a large event in game for us to not have gender locks. Who knows maybe in some event in 5.x we can get both genders unlocked at some point.

Yea, at the very least an acknowledgement that they know people are upset and that they'll work to rectify it in the future would be good. I doubt they want this atmosphere carrying over into the ShB launch. I mean, we've already got news outlets talking about how fans are upset with the genderlock. Isn't exactly good publicity for them.
