I'm not sure if I should, or am allowed to talk about this(might get deleted) but there was a leak before the final SHB trailer came up, it was an image leak that pretty much got everything spot on right, including the fat miqo'te and DNC's role and even their weapons as well as an apparent leak for possible MCH skills. Along with that a second image was posted showing "Eden" where there was a lion and a lionesse, so perhaaaps it may have been leaking female hrothgar being added with eden?

I'm so curious if those super accurate leakers got fired. Or whoever leaked got fired. According to a.... I believe French translation mistaken leak, there was text in the game for both male Viera and female Hrothgar. This could well have been written long before the decision was made to genderlock due to resource issues.

When MrHappy asked Yoshi P about the genderlocking, it was very clear that they didn't have the resources to do 2 full races. And I can understand how much work that is. Even the full line up of helms won't be available on the ShB release. To be fair I sort of expect it to be more, the gear will be equipable but won't show up until the character model version is complete. With the different facial shape on the Hrothgar that too makes sense for a work and timeline reason. They felt forced into doing Viera by the fans, and while considering these likely the final race release, they wanted to give the players that wanted a bestial race as well. But they didn't have the resources to do it all (4 character models and twice the gear work). So they did the female Viera and the male Hrothgar.

A good amount of people think that because of these reasons there is a very good chance we'll see both in the future, or if they really want to dig their heels in on the "lore" reason, which is rather crap because it's not even their lore, but lore they are choosing to uphold in a version of Ivalice that that have specifically said is not FFT/12, there still seems hope for the Hrothgar, who are only getting "rare females" lore for an excuse for why they don't exist presently. With Hrothgar the lore is created for the excuse, and with the Viera it could go either way, really.

With shard hopping as well, they can do whatever they want to bring the different genders in later. Maybe we have to literally save a shard where the gender rarity was swapped there, or they were equal. So when we turn the Crystal Tower into a refugee teleporter in 6.0, bam, our lore is valid, that shard's lore is valid, everyone gets both genders without lore being affected at all.

I'm pretty positive we'll get them. Question is when. Hopefully it won't take as long as another expansion, but I also understand the need for time to develop them. At the end of the day - actual game content is more important in my opinion. But whenever they're able to devote the resources needed, I'll be the first to fantasia right on over.

I don't see them as anything but expansion drop. To big of a change otherwise. And they worked on what we did get most of SB. If they decide we are getting, and start now (or even July 3rd) I don't think they'd be ready until 6.0. What we are getting isn't/won't be ready, as we wont get headgear right away.
