I am sure they will be great though and I am happy for the players that wanted them for so long ^^ I bet they have gorgeous long hair and if they do it might sway me.

I think they knew that it would be datamined like the Crystal Exarch was back in SHB. If I remember correctly, Fran was also teased by showing her feet before the EU Fan Fest, to tease Viera (you can correct me if I'm wrong).
I think they wanted to hide the face to keep the surprise for the reveal, but also wanted something in the patches as a tease for the next expansion. From what we have (her lower body build) she looks just like the female Ronso of FFX, a thing that I have wished for and am extremely happy about!
Although the face not being shown is not the problem. The tail is. Cause we know it's a female Hrothgar, they went so far as to give her a fur texture and fur patches on her thighs, but why keep the tail hidden? Could it be a different surprise? I remember seeing something about the tail RIG, something about going down and then up... I don't know what to think about that, but the only image that pops into my head is the Ronso tails from FFX which do just that! But I don't see them doing that, unless they gave it to the males as well, which is not very probable, but boy, would I love it if true!

We've all seen that they patched up the 'top' of the legs, with a solid surface instead of leaving it hollow, but you can see from rear views that there's a hole in the mesh on the back side of the legs where the tail would be. Why would they go to the effort of filling in the 'top', but leave that hole there? Only explanation is that there will be a tail, but said tail was not a necessary part of the cutscene (ie it wouldn't be rendered from any angle the cutscene used). It's a pretty big hole in the mesh too, so the tail might be quite thick (or at least, have the option to be).

I don't see the tail, or lack thereof, in the cutscene as being that big a deal though. The fact the skin texture has fur patterns, and the relative size/the muscle tone of these mystery legs, is enough to allay most of my fears. Though it would have been nice to have those in the cutscene, instead of needing these datamines (the cutscene only really showed the feet iirc, not the thighs). If SE sticks by previous runs (and they sure love to stick to patterns), we'll see the reveal in 3 weeks at Fanfest, like how Viera were revealed at the second SHB fanfest

New races are a big selling point for a new expansion. More mystery = more hype. Look how much discussion has already taken place concerning whether it's a Hrothgal or not. With a tail it would either be obvious from the first second or mistaken for a Miqo'te, neither of which helps the hype machine.

Given 6.55 only comes out in January, after the third and final fanfest, I wonder if they won't be holding off on that particular reveal until then actually? Though... what else are they going to fill time with aside from the new Caster at the one later this month, were that the case...?

Could be right and then if revealed in Jan (maybe they will show the character) but no information on the race until Jan and then maybe give us a benchmark with the new race to keep us going until release.

Now that I think about it, it would be a little weird to reveal a race before its representative no? My guess is this totally-not-a-Hrothgal lady will make a debut in the EU fanfest trailer, they'll talk a bit about her, and then appear properly ingame in 6.55. Thing is though that by revealing her, they'd also reveal playable Hrothgals, and idk, feels kinda redundant to leave them for JP since we would've already seen how they'd look, and may also appear in the encyclopedia to be released in....november I think? by that point, whatever's left of the surprise factor would be gone.
