Female Hrothgar as a playable race. Show your support!

That was a wordy way of not saying anything. If anything there's a stark contrast to how he answered other things like "No, there will be no engine upgrade in 6.0. We want to make it an ending that you can still play on your current hw ... but we do hope to do it in the future though".

Could have simply said " I've spoken on this before, it's a huge task that many fans probably can't imagine. It's not something you can expect to see in this expac". There's litterally no harm in being direct in saying that, doesn't mean it wont happen in some future expac but tells everyone not to get their hopes up for May with this topic.

" is kinda a nothing burger as the question was so direct that IF it's going to happen there would be zero way for him to say yes in that interview as that would be like telling people the new Melee job that's supposed to be a big reveal in May. Which would be exactly what he's saying ... that the amount of time-effort and resources it would require would mean there's no easy way for him to answer that with a "yes" cause that's a huge reveal that would have to be reserved for May.

Had the reporter asked something more wishy-washy/ indirect like "Many fans are wondering if we will ever meet Male Viera and Female Hrothgar characters in some capacity, even if just as NPCs. Is it possible that we may see some NPCs with those genders/races in 6.0?". That would have given him room to wiggle out something with more meat cause even if he hinted that we may see some NPCs that sure af doesn't mean they would be playable given how NPCs are free to be w/e.

So it's another "take it how you want" quote.

Oh my, don't get my hopes up like that! I think it's unlikely by that response, but I'd love to be surprised in May!

They don't "have" to give us anything beyond what they actually consent to, and even that goes awry sometimes.

In terms of workload the other two genders are probably the same as new races for them, so if they have the time and resources to do it on top of whatever else they're doing remains to be seen.

Fair enough, yes they don't "have" to but if ask me it would be pretty bad of them to just "Yeah not happening" even after giving 1 gender of the race.

Remember, we have never seen a Male Viera in Final Fantasy History, so they aren't obligated to give us Male Viera. Just because Westerners don't like Genderlocked races, doesnt mean it Needs to happen.
If FFXIV is gonna have a Genderlocked race, it would make sense for it to be Viera.

From the way Yoshida words it. He looks to be willing to add both male viera/female hrothgar, regardless of male viera not being seen before. It's the development cost of adding the equivalent of another new race that is stopping them.

ANOTHER new race after male viera/female hrothgar? Now I don't see that happening.
