I am! There are always so many gil opportunities at the beginning of an expansion. In fact, every patch day is also having some gil opportunities too. So it's not entirely "new" to us. But expansions usually bring in even more opportunities than patches. Thus, it is a bit more exciting than patches.
However, for every expansion there will be a lot of leveling to do. And since I don't like to rush my leveling too quickly, I'm usually a bit late for the gil train at the beginning of an expansion. Patches seem to fit me better for the purpose of making gil.
Personally, I'm actually hoping they can bring in some new elements to the world of crafting. Veteran crafters like us have been out of challenges for almost a century (Face the fact, crafting in stormblood has been a breeze with macros with the exception of the Special 2 Star Recipes [i320 crafting gear and i325 crafting tools] in Patch 4.1, which was significantly nerfed to macro-able status in Patch 4.3). So I really hope they will add something more fun to the crafting game in the expansion.
I'm also kinda thrilled with regards to new housing. I am not sure, but my guess is that new plots will be available. So there will be that sudden spike of need for furniture. Currently, the furniture market has been in a super big slump for a loooooooong looooooong time. I think it's about time to stimulate it a little bit, so we can finally get those retainer-clogging furniture sold.
Also, please give me more retainer space and more furniture space in my house! Thank you, SE!

I was already distracted by crafting for months in ARR - and then I found Caimie Tsukino's crafting guide and I have been unable to stop ever since!
I liked how for the ARR crafting guide you didn't just tell people to cut and paste macros, instead encouraging crafters to figure it out on their own. Now it seems like most people just cut and paste, which is OK but not quite as interesting as making them yourself. I remember the madness of trying out maker's mark rotations for that ala mhigan crafting gear and actually succeeding (and failing, haha.)
I still miss making those Isolator Components (?) for the Ixal before they nerfed them.
Like many people (work or school anyone?) I've usually missed out on the patch day gil rush; but that's probably OK - I was eventually able to pay for those giant stacks of materia that I burned as a sacrifice to the demons of Advanced Materia Melding.
Besides glamour-any-item-you've-bound and a universal currency tab, I would like to have more outside furnishing slots.

Yeah, good old days when people would actually read a guide without answers, and use the hints to figure the answers themselves! I think the real fun of the crafting mini-game lies in figuring out the answer of the puzzles yourself, and the guide served well to provide as much hints as possible without the spoiler... That was the reason why I originally didn't put any rotations in the oldest version of that ARR guide. Unfortunately, as time goes on, I received more and more comments about my guide lacking rotations. So eventually I gave in, and I gave them what they wanted. It did kind of killed the fun, imo.I was already distracted by crafting for months in ARR - and then I found Caimie Tsukino's crafting guide and I have been unable to stop ever since!

“The best crafter is not the one with the best stats, but the one who makes the best use of one’s stats” – By Caimie Tsukino
The crafting has kind of degraded into a vicious cycle on my server where you only get maybe a week or two after each major patch to have a fair chance at selling anything before the bot farmers get settled in and take over the market.
I'd like to hope that gets addressed before ShB drops...but that's unlikely.
I do enjoy crafting during those brief periods where I can actually push sales, though.
cammie your guide still helps alot people learn crafting from the prospective of just analysing what you have and seeing if you can optimize it or rearrange some things to suit your needs better.
i remember reading through it at the back end of hw along with other things to see if there was new things to gleam from it. ive been crafting since arr launch but the more you know so to speak.
as for xpac... one of the best opportunities will be desynth if its like hw and sb launches. so much super cheap gear to buy you can power level to the current or new max super easily. and then just sell all the mats back on mb to either break even or more likely to make a profit. even if you break even it means all dungeon gear will be easily broken down to new mats and those will be worth good gil for awhile while everyone is levelling.
While newer stuff will be in high demand, it might be worthwhile to keepon selling a few pieces of the last expansions stuff. I joined a patch or 2 after stormblood launched, yet mythrite nuggets were still going for quite a bit! Least i think so..
If only there was something worth spending all this gil on.
I stopped working on DoH/DoL during Stormblood, but they're all 70 again with max gear. This time I plan on spending a lot of time in crafting gear with SwB after I finish the MSQ (and get GUN to 80).
