A request to those who are unhappy with gender lock

The devs will most likely not change their mind because of a temporary outrage on the forums. However, if their revenue forecast suddenly takes a drop after announcing an expansion, that's a different story.

So please consider canceling your subscription renewal if you're opposed to gender locked races.

You will still be able to play the game with the remaining days of your active subscription. You can still resubscribe at any time. It's not about dramatically quitting the game forever, it's about communicating with the devs in a way they can't ignore. And I can assure you that the risk of losing a large number of resubs will do the trick.

If this is important to you, then tell your friends, reply to this thread to keep it visible, and cancel your Shadowbringers pre-order. ; )

You're not going to accomplish anything, the Q/As they have is what's going to push them, if anything. I'll see you in 5.0, and the rest of you that are boycotting the game.

Yes, cancel your pre-order. But instead or resubbing, just leave. A negative community is a big turn off for new players. There is a big difference between being constructive and being hostile. Alternatively, you can accept that not everything is going to be how you personally want it. There are legitimate reasons for male Viera not being playable and that DNC works for ranged/ support along with MCH/BRD. I wanted a new healer too (although not DNC as healer, because I thought it fit DPS better). I don't get everything I want (not even close), but I'm not going to pretend it is a bad business decision or some sort of micro-aggression. The forums have been vastly negative over many different things. Its night and day between the forums and the actual in game community. You aren't seeing the full picture. These fanfests did a great job at luring people in from other games. SE sees the blood in the water, but it isn't theirs.

I think you're severely overestimating how important XIV is to SE financially, and how much influence its dev team wields in the grand scheme of things. If there's a sudden drop in revenue they'll just start firing people(though I'm sure there are plenty here that would throw a party when it happened to Yoshida) and put it in a closet like XI.

It's quite the contrary, actually. For general Q&As, larger companies decide well in advance what they are going to answer and how they're going to answer it. There are usually two factors to selecting questions:
    1. Is it a topic of great concern for the player base that needs to be addressed.
    2. Can they reply in a positive way that sells a specific aspect of their game.
The Q&A itself is just a way to deliver news in a way that makes the community feel engaged.

    My point exactly.

I honestly don't get comments like this. I understand people are being hyperbolic and loud right now, and I don't agree with how many are reacting despite me being on the anti-genderlock train but I feel like we're justified in our disappointment. On top of that, being that we pay for this game if we're dissatisfied then we're free to "vote with our wallets" to try to send a message to the dev team. It's good for you that you're indifferent to the decisions of the devs even if it's not what you would've wanted personally, however to say that we're all just being negative is really underplaying people's legitimate concerns. From limited classes to genderlocked races, and the possibility of it being 6 years for a chance at a new healer now that DNC's been revealed as a DPS, I think it's fair to say that they've disappointed a lot of people and the recent pattern honestly makes me wonder what direction the game is taking. I honestly don't mean to sound so dramatic and I realize that I might, but it's just been a lot of decisions lately making myself and countless others feel the same way. I should mention that I find the other reveals to be really nice and interesting and think that they've done a great job. I was so hyped watching the keynote but I hate the way I felt when they introduced Hrothgar and Viera as genderlocked (and brushed off male Viera using lore reasons which...is another issue in itself honestly). I really want to be excited but I can't help but feel like they should have just told us from the start that this would be the case. They purposely dragged it on knowing people would speculate to build hype (and it's no coincidence that preorders were a few days after the EU Fanfest where they revealed Viera and said nothing else regarding genderlocks and the like). I honestly feel like that was a bit dishonest.

And people severly overestimate how significantly their boycott call is followed and underestimate how many player aren't even feeling concerned about incoming content outside of "yeah cool" and "meh" reaction to patch note.

Try quoting all of my post then. I see these forums posts all the time. It is very negative all the time. It doesn't ever stop.

If they start to fire devs for lack of financial resources how can they meet your expectations and listen your concerns?

it's not only about a "boycott" which only works in big numbers. it's also a genuine disinterest of playing a game with such limitations.
it's the reason I left Tera, it's the reason I don't play Black desert online, or any other game that has genderlocked races OR classes.
