SE is responsible for leading the hype-train and setting expectations

I don't agree with all of the constant backlash from players against other players who are upset.

Square-Enix are ultimately the ones responsible for setting up the expectations for male viera and dancer. Square-Enix is the company that released the male viera promo art, and they're the ones who said we would be getting viera as a new race. Square-Enix is the company that solidified male viera in lore books. And Square-Enix is the company that proved that just because a gender is rare (like male cats) that they can be playable characters. Square-Enix has tight control over the information they put on the internet, and they're responsible for guiding the hype train and ensuring that people's expectations are in check.

I know people are disappointed, but please don't harass each other for false expectations when the company responsible for planting those seeds did so intentionally. They knew this was going to happen, and they did it anyways. They control how the information gets shared.

If anything can be learned from this is just don't buy into the hype, and don't trust anything Square-Enix hints at without proof. It sucks that they're squandering their trust this way--but that's ultimately their decision to make.

If people got hyped over CONCEPT ART is their own fault, not the developers fault.

While it's understandable to be upset, people claiming that they're going to quit just makes them look worse.

Right. And you, like so many others, took that concept art as the gospel truth. Placing all the hype and expectations are all on the player base; SE has never once said male Viera would ever be playable, you just got the idea in your head that they should be.

Seriously, when asked about male viera in Paris, they could've just said "Nope, not doing them!".

Don't get me wrong, people would still be bitter, and they would be still asked for male viera over and over, just like how it happened in 1.0 with mi'qote/highlader/roe, but this nuclear salt explosion wouldn't happen today. If anything, more people would be a bit happier at the prospect of getting big lion bois (the demand for big lion-lady would still appear, though) and we wouldn't have so many hating on them by default.

Instead, they build on hype for...this.

They never once promised male viera and no concept art is not proof of them promising anything, it's called a concept for a reason. This is what happens when the community hypes themselves up over speculation, you will always be disappointed every single time.

And if you think SE is disreputable by not putting in male Viera that was shown in concept art for the race, then you must have never played a Bethesda or EA game.
