the only thing that the ffxiv team needs to do is put out a statement saying that they will add male and female counterparts for the viera and the hrothgar respectively, and the outrage will subside.
gender-locking content is regressive and absurd

Yes. Its how things these days work.I'm only suggesting that people get a little more civilized, understanding, patience, etc. Is it really too much to ask for in this day and age?
Post respectfully and quietly? Get shouted down by people who disagree with you.
You might as well come out of the gate with volume and intensity, because you're fighting the same fight of yelling over the same people going "LOL UR WRONG THIS THING IS THE BEST THING EVER" regardless of the approach you take.
Look at the absurdity of the big bunny thread after about page 1. It mirrors basically anything on any social media platform these days. (Or the news. Or anything even tangentially related to politics).
I think its just, as others have said, something really poorly handled from the publicity side. People have been requesting Viera for....since ARR? And as early as HW I think is when we saw the concept art of the male Viera. Then more recently you have big chunks of lore about the male Viera that all sounded very much like it was being set up as a way of writing them into the world even if they didn't live with the female Viera. I honestly thought, after reading the lore, that they'd make Viera's two factions male and female and split it that way. They did this odd dance of letting people assume based on their tidbits and refusal to say one way or another, only to then pull a switch a roo with a race they'd never even really hinted at. Another genderlocked one at that, though who knows what excuse we'll have for why they have no females around yet don't go extinct.
Pair that with some general disappointment about the lack of new healers and previous complaints like Eureka and BLU, things do start to compile into irritation that is hard to shake. Having a new healer might have blunted the sting of gender locking or vice versa but they did both and delivered the news at the same time with little to break their own fall. Besides gender locking is just so...regressive and tone deaf. In our game men shall be big strong men and women shall be gorgeous, high heel wearing sex bombs, end of story. None of that is to say they dont work hard...though I will say its got to be way more work to design two separate races with two factions each, and their own lore rather than, ya know, using the lore you have, and making Viera factions the split between male and female. That seems like a much easier task that would have satisfied the player base. I can't honestly think of a good reason why they went the way they did knowing the anger it would cause.

Wouldn't be the 1st time. And not the last as we can see.
Even if I don't get why they don't take a closer look at people reaction. Musn't be fun to get all the "hate'' each time because of that.
I wish S.E. had gone with the concept art for their design. Female Au Ras and miqotes look too similar. We didn't need another "sexy girl" type in the game. It would have been better to have had the original "demon girl" instead.
Agree with OP, everyone take a breath and calm down. You have any concern for the devs and their well-being? Or do all of you only care about what you want? Seriously, the selfishness on this forum right now is astounding!
I love this thread. Exactly this, I agree with OP.
Realistically it's the player bases fault for assuming you were getting something and making Headcannon.
But if you knew what constructive criticism was and not just temper tantrums (and you wonder why NA is ignored, you all are embarrassing and I'm ashamed to be a part of this community) you could probably lead a movement and have them do the classes for later.
But all these threads are just trashy and immature.
You have a right to be dissapointed, you have a right to express that. You don't have a right to bully people that don't agree with you and try to trash the dev team.
They should of yes and you have no right to tell people that this game isnt for them.If male bunny pixels are all it takes for you to quit, then maybe this game isn't for you. There was *never* any promise of Male Viera and throwing a temper tantrum about it just solidifies the thought in my mind that SE should have just said no when people started asking for Viera in the first place.
If they wouldnt care so much about it, they wouldnt make a big tantrum as you said. So stop that nonsense.
