As far as I know, they didn't re-write Miqo'te lore. Male Miqo'te are still far outnumbered by their female counterparts. NPCs in the world that are Miqo'te are namely female - I can recall the 2 nuhns, 5 tias out of the countless females in all of Hydaelyn.

Now, you could argue PCs shouldn't be held to the same standard, but when a baby is taken at birth to be isolation and raised on only the strongest survive and made hostile...

    ...

It's hard even for me to find a lore-abiding reason to allow PCs access to male Viera given what's been presented.

EDIT: RIP. Hit the daily limit. Did they reduce it again? D:

Yeah. I was at FanFest 2014 in person as well. I also remember the panel it was during - discussion the concept of Au Ra and what the artists had come up with. I'm keenly aware that most pictures that get circulated with the depiction of Veira from the announcement of Heavensward are from the FATE in TOKYO, even though they show cased the same image as Au Ra - The Viera in the panel.

    Context clues would tell you:
    1) All the artwork is concepts for the race that will be titled "Au Ra" - every image in that panel had "Au Ra" scribed onto the page with a subtext of some sort showing the idea behind it (demon, dragon, beast, viera, viangaa, etc.)
    2) All of the concepts were ideas on what Au Ra would look like
    3) Most of the ideas were very different, with the reptilian-looks being the only theme that was repeated
    4) That whatever the choice was, Au Ra was going to be the name of the race (IE: If the concept dubbed "The Viera" was picked to be "Au Ra," chances are, we'd have bunny Au Ra and not demi-dragon Au Ra).

This is in part why I think consumers are honestly presented too much information. Instances like this happen where people become upset and feel led on.

Maybe, but I hope they don't. Male Viera do not intermingle with other races, and are overtly hostile towards them. But sure, let's go ahead and let Shirogane, and Ala Mhigo, and Eorzea be infested with bunny men that by nature would have nothing to do with any other race other than other male Viera.

    Seems legit.
they never retconned that lore. It is still the standard miqo'te lore.

So again, dont bark that nonsense at me.

I'll agree with this over the Viera piece. In effect, SE is adding a new male and a new female. They've chosen to do so in a way that doesn't include males with bunny ears and more muscular females - with the latter being a particularly underrepresented demographic in Eorzea - but I really see no good reason for most of the fuss except in cases where people were specifically wanting to play a male version of a playboy bunny.

I disagree, however, in other ways - at least for now. Obviously we haven't heard everything about Shadowbringers yet, but it was foolish to announce DNC as a DPS role at this particular Fan Fest. If they don't have another Healer in the pipe, then they've really screwed up, and explicitly NOT listened to the community. If they've got a Healer under development and simply chose to announce DNC first, then they were just foolish for offering DNC footage first (and not confirming a Healer is coming in some fashion).

This also isn't the first time the developers haven't listened to the fans. They released Diadem 2.0 and Eureka while making no significant changes to the original flawed formula. They've continually resisted Glamour-related requests, such as removing role restrictions for Glamouring, despite the fact that their excuse - class identity - is patently absurd given the various pig suits and bikinis and whatnot they allow people to wear into dungeons. They routinely ignore or neglect to address class imbalances that theorycrafters identify, choosing instead to pay attention to highly deceptive statistics like how many people play each class. And this is just scratching the surface. Taking all of this into account, I don't see what else people can conclude. We try voicing our opinions politely all the time, or asking questions about them, and promptly get ignored (or given ridiculous explanations with logical inconsistencies that a 5-year-old could identify). What other method is there, at this point, besides unsubscribing?

Personally, I'm still going to give Shadowbringers a shot. I'm holding out hope that a new Healer will be a surprise announcement, and I'm also intrigued about the plot direction. As always, hope springs eternal that SE will be making better choices that ARE informed by player feedback from Stormblood, too. But my tolerance for mistakes is quite low, and I certainly wouldn't fault others for feeling similarly.

Where in Hydaelin's name did it say the males were taken at birth? The dramaturge explicitly points out all Viera children are raised in the Village, indistinguishable until they're 13, a male will come down once every two years to mate and take those male teens with him. That's still plenty of time to form an identity and even throw in some sob-backstory about being taken away from his best friends and wanting to go back. We do have to remember that the WoL is always an outlier.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is actually an example of white-knighting. "You have no right to be angry and if you are, don't take it out on the poor, multi-million dollar company."

Nope. Denied. I am a consumer and I have a right to speak up when I am unhappy with a product.

What I won't be doing is criticizing the actual devs that created these because they're not the decision-makers and usually, when you hear "the devs didn't want to" they're being used as scapegoats. But criticize the decision-makers I will, 100%.

If we all relaxed and just supported the development team, this game wouldn't be anything of what it is today. Sounds like a great idea.... smh

Hold this company accountable for their mistakes, instead of being complacent. The more we just blindly support the less they will care to fix things. I get that they work hard, and we all love them and we want to show them we are glad for what we did get. I do. But there comes a point where you have to put your foot down and tell them point blank. "You have made a mistake. You have damaged player trust. You need to FIX these issues. No more hiding behind half-baked excuses."

Just putting my support for this matter. Gender lock isn't the way because it shows lack of creativity. Please show us your talent on creating male Viera and female Ronso. This will be a good move on your end. Please listen to the fans and you're forever respected. Best of luck on your future decisions d-(^.^)z

Work hard? Absolutely, they for sure work long hrs and their butts off.
But listen to the fans... Blu and now Dancer want a word with you
I know this thread was moreso about Vierra which i am not certain where i stand.
Other games have gender locked jobs like Tera for example and honestly do not find it a big deal but must also see other players reasoning and respect that
