Then maybe they should stop posting said concept art? It's not a valid argument. Nothing was promised, and by feebly posting that picture, they are trying to say that SE deliberately misled them and their wild fantasies and expectations for something that was never going to happen.

I'm not sure how you can support them for making a bad decision... and this IS a bad decision. Races should not be gender locked in any game.

Bottom line is people arent happy unless they're unhappy. Frankly I'm just happy to be able to play this game.

Honestly it'd probably be better if they'd give zero hints at all about what future content might bring when looking at some of posts around.

There is a reason I don't even touch on it and instead focus on how they handled the reveal at fanfest where they could have very easily clarified the issue, and the lore in game. The latter of which frankly was very much a backtrackable moment as that was the first and /only/ instance we have heard of the males in FF14. Likewise they didn't even need to backtrack it. Just save the blurb about the males for when we get to the Greatwood. "Where are all the guys?" -> "Oh -insert lore explanation here-." Would have worked just as well, if not better given the circumstances.
Not directly you, but quoting the sentiment; the only thing I meant to directly reply to you was the 'mono-gender race' thing. The whole "playable male Viera" seems to stem from the concept art circling around when Au Ra were first announced. They showed all the concept art for what would be considered "Au Ra" - a race based on Viera, a race based on dragons (with some looking more bestial), some based on demons, some based on the viangaa, and some based on "beast" (lupin and viera are actually depicted here).

For the FanFest, they showed only female Viera. I, for one and I know I wasn't alone in pointing this out, made a point to tell others they only showed females. No males. Players dismissed it, saying maybe they need more development time and brought up how all of the models in the trailer look the same in the face. When it was brought up that not even Au Ra were shown with just male or just female and it'd be incredibly bad to show half of a race, players continued to cover their ears and reject this notion. Others pointed out the lore for male viera is one of annex and isolation, unlike male Miqo'te, which are just very uncommon compared to their female counterparts and how XIV, for all its faults, adheres to the lore they have built.

All of this ignored or explained away for a sliver of hope, especially with the "please wait for the Japanese FanFest" reply.

I can't be angry with XIV on an arguably bad judgement call when players were so willfully dismissive of facts.

They have reversed course before, so the precedent is there. But the constant complaining and whining by this community for a race that they never wanted to add in the first place is just a really, really sad look for this game.

paying customers: please add this to the game

Game developers aren’t toddlers. It’s not the customers responsibility to hold their hands and praise every decision they make and support everything they do unconditionally. Being upset over a development choice is not a personal attack on anyone. People are paying for entertainment and are entitled to voice their opinions and criticisms over said choices. If someone is so disappointed over the gender lock that they choose to quit the game, that’s valid and it’s their prerogative. No one is obligated to keep paying for entertainment that for whatever reason is no longer bringing them joy. Paying for a product you are unhappy with while hoping silently that your monetary support will go towards future changes is ridiculous.

Also thus forum literally reads just like forums of every other game when the developers make.... controversial(poor) design choices. Every game community is the same in the end lol.

Be patient be diplomatic it's all we can and should do. The devs deserve far better than the hostile behavior going around. They probably feel bad enough already and people are just salting the wound.

They will add them eventually if the demand is there. It is not set in stone.

it isn't about what 'they' wanted to add. They held a vote, Viera won. They made Au Ra instead, and the consequence of not listening to the people who are literally paying for their shit, is that we pestered them. Perhaps if they had given the playerbase what they wanted to pay for to begin with would have meant they could have added Au Ra later without backlash for not adding Viera. Perhaps there'd be no backlash now, because they'd have implemented a full race instead of just half-assing two races with lame excuses as for why they're incomplete.

In the end this is a product and we are buyers. It's not about what they want, it's about what WE want.
