A letter to the Devs, Producers, and whoever else has a say

In GW2 I played a female Charr, the sections of platforming aside (Charr tended to clip through walls and stuff) I loved having a female beastly race to play. In many other games the trend tended to be the males of a species would be beastly and the females would be humans with animal ears. GW2's forums have seen more than a few posts over the years from players wanting female Charr to be changed into female miqo'te.

I am disappointed that female Hrothgar won't be an option for me. I honestly thought the game was beyond that when they gave us male miqo'te and female roes. As a number of players have already pointed out in both this thread and others the number of PC male miqo'te outnumber the male roes. While I really want a beast like race, this attempt to please both sides seems to have ignored the basic reality that beastly races tend not to be played much in any MMO. Male bunnies would have been a much more popular option.

I hope in the future SE will change their mind and add male viera and female hrothgar.

Indeed, if Lore is the reason why they made it like this, then they change this lore. They already it for Miqote. If the problem is resource or time, then only focus on 1 race and release the other in 6.0 or even better, release them when they are done. The new races are not only gender locked, they have headgear limitation, they can not wear helmet and glasses. They might be able to wear some hats... this is nuts, why release an unfinished race?

Personally, I'm okay with the announcements from a logical standpoint.

DNC was never confirmed to be a healer by the devs. From what I know, there was an unsubstantiated leak which caused players to have expectations for DNC to be a healer. DNC, like most classes, was probably always going to be a Ranged DPS. With the time it takes to actually create and implement a new class, this decision would have been made early on. The way I see it, this actually balances out the jobs and sets up for a wonderful slew of jobs come 6.0. Understand that now all ranged categories have 3 jobs to them, and all melee categories have 4 jobs to them.

Heals (Ranged magic):
WHM
SCH
AST

Ranged DPS:
BRD
MCH
DNC

Ranged Caster:
BLM
SMN
RDM
(BLU does not count to this category because it is a limited job and has no bearing on Main content by developer design)

Now with all ranged categories having 3 jobs, they could in theory add one to each category come 6.0 and make all categories consist of 4 jobs.

Now as to the race issue, I understand the complaint that Yoshida stated that he wouldn't gender-lock races in FFXIV. I also understand that Yoshida has made claims to content in years past that could be also considered broken promises (proper egi-glamours, FC primal summonings, housing to be very affordable at initial implementation, etc). Yoshi did say that these were the last races to be added to ffxiv. However, adding new genders to now previously existing races was not mentioned to be off the table. Instead to fuming at the fact that they made a design choice they made and pointed out with hints in the game for their last 2 races; the more constructive thing to do would be to respectfully show that there is a desire to have the other genders of these two races implemented, and ask Yoshida if there is any future plans to add the other genders if community desires for these genders is large enough to warrant it. On the japanese forums, there is some confusion over the decision, but overall acceptance. Their main thing is if they'll implement the genders later.

As to those who have been threatening unsubbing because of the decisions made by Yoshi and the dev team, I wish you well. Now some of the overpopulated servers (balmung included) might have a more manageable population and not explode the game this patch.
