I fall into the category of someone who plays the same job no matter what. I would never main anything that isn't Paladin, I have no interest in playing gunbreaker as a main. I would level it yes because I get all jobs to level cap as one of the goals in the game but main it never after its exp capped probably wouldn't touch it again. Personally I wouldn't even be disappointed with a expansion that didn't add new jobs. FFXI had 1 expansion with no new jobs (CoP) people really weren't disappointed I would say.
You don't need new jobs at all to play as any role but can you imagine how upset people would be if they added no new jobs at all? New jobs give people a new way and style to play a role they enjoy. If they feel they want to try something new it is those new jobs that give them the option to do that without changing roles. It adds variety.
Some people are fine with the same thing forever. Some however aren't. At this rate healers would have gone six years without anything new before they might get something new. No guarantees. For people looking for a new take on the role they enjoy, this is very demoralising.

Yes, because after months of internal testing, they are simply going to change the fundamentals of a class 3 months away from launch. Sounds like a great idea. I get it people are disappointed but it's really too late to change it. Best hope it for the next expansion to show one off prominently, much how the Gunbreaker was featured.

The decision was made they aren't going to scrap months of work and gameplay because of the fan base rioting. If they were going to roll over about things like this then they would have never made announcements like the Crystal Data Center. That made significant amounts of people riot. I mean it's still being ripped into and SE is still standing on their decision. So it's just going to have to be a hard swallow for those excited for the healer announcement that it is a DPS.
The only thing we can do as a player base is to continue what we do best and speculate what WILL be the new class/job for the healer role in the future.
Here's a list of so far Hopes and Dreams:
1) Gaia - Hammer Job.
2) Green Mage - FFTA Hammer/Mace Job
3) Geomancer - Bell class
4) Songstress
Um...
Yeah, Ranged physical has like just two jobs, and like no competition for bards in party comps because MCH was pretty much nerfed at launch and really need an acceptable rework for party utility in mind. And, dnc in FFT can both compliment and compete with brd, which would be nice just to reduce the monopoly brd seems to have in serious party compositions (and totally avoid a nerf).Ranged physical is support, not quite dps in the same sense as other dps. I thought it would be healer, but now after I've seen it and thought about it, I'm happy with this too. Of all the "roles", physical ranged support had only 2 options. And with the MCH rework in the works, I guess it's the best time to round out the role with a third option and finally decide on the identity of each one.
Plus, now there's a much, much higher chance of getting Chemist in 6.0!

Ewwwwwww, it's all glowwy again!

It is perfectly fine for people to be happy with one Job. I don't really care for new races because I am never going to change my character from a Miqote. However it does matter for those who aren't happy with only getting whatever they have and with the reaction of no new healers it is clear that there are people, myself included, who really like having something new from time to time. Considering the noise just the healers are making, if there were no new jobs at all, I think we might see a riot on these forums.I fall into the category of someone who plays the same job no matter what.
