One theory I have is that Sin Eaters can be "created". We know that the Allagans were able to create artificial Voidsent. While the exact mechanics of how they did this are never explained, I personally like to imagine that they somehow harnessed Darkness itself and channeled it into a creature until it turned. The Amdapori could have done similar experiments, except involving Light, and thus created artificial Sin Eaters. The creatures turned out to be too unruly to deal with, and so Golems in their likeness were created for practicality's sake.
Ah, but where from? That's one of the big questions; to our knowledge, the First is the only Shard to have even come close to Flooding with Light, and the Thirteenth is the only one to have suffered a complete Flood of any kind. That's the big thrust of the discussion, here - is there a Light-Flooded Shard we do not know about? Or can Sin Eaters appear from some other origin?

Just referring to my bit of random speculation from the last page:Ah, but where from? Like, there's a big thematic disconnect design-wise between Kuribu, the winged lion, and Innocence, and the super freaky monstrous ones in the Keynote. So my random theory is basically that the Sin Eaters (or at least the three I mentioned) were always present on the First, and capable of popping through to the Source though natural gates between the First and the Source. It's only relatively recently, with the rise of the Flood of Light, that they've become malevolent and twisted.Just as a random off-the-top-of-my-head thought, it's possible that Sin Eaters are a semi-natural part of the First's ecosystem, and only became malevolent and actively hostile with the rising of the Flood. After all, Kuribu, the winged lion, and Innocence all look rather normal unlike the twisted creatures featured at the Keynote, so they could have just been normal beings that could pop onto the Source at random like voidsent via natural voidgates.

I was thinking the same thing as well. The reavers in Sastasha HM were mutated due to being over exposed to Leviathan's water-aspected aether. With the lower reaches of Amdapor being flooded with light, perhaps they experimented with light-based aether? From there they may have experimented with fusing a mage with light aether and eventually created a Kuribu and this was the basis of their stone statues. One theory I have is that Sin Eaters can be "created". Unless I'm remembering the second Encyclopedia Eorzea incorrectly, the golems were designed after beings the Amdapoori magi encountered from "a higher plane". I think it also said that the only difference between the golems and a real kuribu is that the golems have a crystal on their chest to animate them. One theory I have is that Sin Eaters can be "created". I wouldn't be too surprised if the keynote sin eaters disguised themselves as the kuribu and lion so that Amdapor wouldn't reject them on sight(beings that revolve around light using light to mask their appearance, same concept as glamour prisms, makes sense), but Innocence remains an enigma.

Specifically "transcendent beings from yet another plane". The description also has "it is said", ie the usual hedging the lore likes to use for cases where the writers want to have an escape clause for retconning. I'm still not sure how the timeline works, but I assume there will be Shenanigans.Unless I'm remembering the second Encyclopedia Eorzea incorrectly, the golems were designed after beings the Amdapoori magi encountered from "a higher plane". (I admit I mainly checked because I was curious if it actually said "a higher plane", and what that would mean if the Source believes the First to be a "higher" plane to itself. I also admit I was slightly disappointed to discover that it's just "another" plane.)
