I'm still over here cackling at how close we came to the concept when we were spitballing the possibility of temporary "empyrean horrors" that exist during the Flood of Light before it leaves "blank perfection" in its wake. I'm not sure if Ultima could be one, though. Would that not necessitate that there was a Flood of Light somewhere in the past and that it was prevented and that Ultima somehow slipped the confines of the world it manifested in? That's not terribly parsimonious, especially when it's already associated with the destructive magicks said to be "a sliver of Zodiark's power".

Then again, now that you mention it ... what if one or more shards we think still exist have actually already been reduced Light-born void(s)? How would we ever know? No calamity marked its destruction, but there are no voidsent to give hint of its presence. (Granted, Elidibus would probably know and it would be persuasive information to dangle; wouldn't he have by now? lol.)
