What is the benefit

Knowing that players don’t like this kind of restriction, I don’t understand why SE would create lore that’s excludes one gender.
This is a different world from FF12, there’s no reason for us not to have lore that is different from that world.
Why create restrictions?

I would be less annoyed about the gender locking if we didn't essentially get a second miqo race that happens to be on steroids.

Don't get me wrong, I think ronso/hrothgar look cool. But we have a cat race already. And as a female cat race player I am so disappointed I can't be a big female cat. I'm stuck in the trope of being a petite female if I want to have bestial features.

I think I'd be side eyeing it less if they gave us Lupin instead frankly. The assets are already there. Though I am interested in the new race and am glad we're /finally/ getting a beastly race to play, mono-gendered though it is. If it wasn't mono-gendered I'd be pretty excited but as of now I'm fairly lukewarm.

I'm more surprised that people who have been playing the game for years are more than willing to quit the entire game over this,i could understand if the story ended up being underwhelming or the fights and class balance weren't great but how do people let bunny boys be the straw that breaks the camels back

The only thing SE could possibly do worse than now is if they have immediately announced that Male Viera / Female Hrothgar exist on April 1st.
Then say its a joke.

I honestly just take people exclaiming "I'm unsubbing" as all talk, because 9/10 that's what it is.

They're probably going to do something lore wise similar to what they did with Mithra and Galka in FFXI. As long as it has some sort of nice lore payoff, I really don't mind, personally.
