Not that it's a true citation, but when you look at most online games, anthromorphic beast creatures generally take up such a small percent of created characters.

No matter how petty their argument, no matter how much you try to gas light their opinions and the way they're trying to use what means they have as leverage, you have to admit this was a poor decision from a business standpoint.

And Square Enix is first and foremost a business trying to make money. Seems to me they've done a poor job setting themselves up for that this expansion.
they made female vierra for the business, they made male hrothgar to expand the fantasical elements of the world.

Also, to be successful you tend to have to straddle the line between overtly commercial and underground realness. You go too far in one direction or the other you start to lose people. The game already has a rep for being a little to gratuitous with the prettified/cute commercial crowd.
