Imagine being a Dev team primarily fueled by a cosmetics microtransaction store alongside the recurring subscriptions (composed of half-hearted players and enthusiasts alike,) when suddenly a sizable chunk falls out of each of your residual incomes due to disillusioned players cancelling their subs until ShB and the post-ShB Fantasia purchases not reaching the same peak in sales it would have with more options (the very same ones a sizable chunk of the Community was anticipating but no longer requires Fantasia for because you killed these options in their crib.)

Not that it's a true citation, but when you look at most online games, anthromorphic beast creatures generally take up such a small percent of created characters.

No matter how petty their argument, no matter how much you try to gas light their opinions and the way they're trying to use what means they have as leverage, you have to admit this was a poor decision from a business standpoint.

And Square Enix is first and foremost a business trying to make money. Seems to me they've done a poor job setting themselves up for that this expansion.
