It's common for people to say, half-joking, that glamour is the true endgame. I've also seen squabbles between players who focus everything on fight mechanics versus players who are deeply invested in the lore. Crafters and gatherers are still legitimate players, as are people who focus on the Gold Saucer or RP.

If you want a simple, one-dimensional game where everyone likes and dislikes the same thing... FFXIV might not be the best choice.
This is a great point. I personally play FFXIV to socialize, it's a place where I can actually "see" my online friends and do stuff with them besides talking on discord. As I consider it kind of a meeting place, I do care a lot about how my character looks and I jokingly call XIV as my dress-up simulator, glamour being a big motivator for me to farm stuff in the game. I play the game pretty casually, try my best to do well but don't really touch the harder content. I cap my tomes and excluding Eureka I've done quite a few relics as well.

My point is that I don't go around yelling at SE to stop making raids and extreme primal fights since they don't cater to me. I'm glad that there's that kind of content for people to enjoy too. I was legit disappointed right there with the world first raiders when SE announced they wouldn't do an Ultimate fight for 4.5, following the UWU progression was a fun experience. I don't know why people feel the need to put down others who do enjoy glamours and the character they play as, realize not everyone plays the game like you and enjoys the game in the same way as you do and that doesn't make their enjoyment any less valuable.
