The women locked race is sexy lingerie ladies and the dude locked race are giant power fantasy muscle dudes. And that plays into "gender norms", only serve to eliminate options for those people who want to express themselves in game who might not fall in these gender norms. Why do people keep pretending masculine female representations don't exist with the races? Don't we have Thighlanders and Roegadames? Why do people keep pretending that cutesy and graceful males don't get representation like Lalafellas and Manquo'te? I get wanting to go against the status quo, appeal to variety, but this horsecrap about FFXIV being P R O B L E M A T I C because there's one more race where the women are feminine and the males are masculine needs to fucking end. I don't know what the mogstation has to do with any of this. The phrase means that the endgame is making the perfect outfits for your character and at "endgame" you have access to most options since you don't have to worry about being restricted by level. And yes, the outfits can also consist of mogstation pieces.

I'm not trying to turn this into a debate about the mogstation, been there way too many times. But you said that glamor is the true endgame, and I agree- folk should be able to make there character look exactly how they want. But a cash shop is still a barrier when it comes to glamor, in the same way that gender exclusive races are. Can't have it both ways. If cosmetics is your argument, then open the races to both genders, and make everything on the mogstation available in game.

It's utterly baffling to me that there are a lot of you laughing and making fun of people who are upset about this. "This is nothing new, there's plenty of MMOs with gender locked races". Yeah, so what? In case you didn't know, this is Final Fantasy XIV, gender locked races haven't been a thing since 1.0 and for good reason. Why are you so against giving people more options? How does it hurt you if there's male Viera?

I know there's a lot of hyperbole going around, and that tends to happen when a company makes decisions that make no sense like these. I personally won't unsub over it but my faith in this game has been shaken once again, severely diminishing my excitement for Shadowbringers. I totally respect anyone who feels like they don't want to support SE with this happening. People are allowed to voice their opinion and it's their right as a customer to stop supporting a product they're not happy with. And to the people saying it's ridiculous to get upset over cosmetics, ever heard of the phrase "glamour is endgame"? Cosmetics are one of the most important parts when it comes to any online game, you want your character to stand out and for it to look exactly like you want it to. From MMOs to even basic online shooters, the whole reward systems are based around skins and cosmetic customization.

I want to say it again since I don't think it can be stressed enough, why are you advocating for less content, for less options?

Assuming everyone who is upset is from the West.....it just shows how bad Gender Politics are that people are mad at a Japanese game over a western issue.

If you enjoy this game, the Genderlocked race shouldn't be an issue. Understandably a Disappointment...but not an Issue.
And if it is a big enough issue to make you unsubb, then I question why you still played the game till this point.

Yes... they are a giant company. When you are more visible you have greater responsibilities to not mess up than, joeshcmo on the street. They should be more calculated in how they approach things. Especially things they got shit for previously.

Answer what? When I say its irrelevant I mean that, what you intended to do is irrelevant if the result is bad. If you shoot me in the face and say " i meant to shoot the deer" you shot me in the face, I got messed up. That's it.

I'm sure male Viera and female Hrothgar can be added later, possibly not in this expansion but in future ones, maybe even in 7.0 when we'll go to the moon.


Truth is if I decided to unsubscribe because I don't like something in the game I would have done it a long time ago, because this game despite being good lacks horribly in the graphics department and they are never going to improve them.


If it wasn't because I love my characters I would unsubscribe myself, I just don't see any intention from the dev team to improve the game's look, even the keynote uses some shabby low-res graphics as if taken from some poor laptop, other games offer some really good graphics for characters besides more customization.


I will reconsider firing all of my extra retainers and just pay the basic sub for the remaining of this game, just to keep my characters alive and my mansions, obviously because it makes me mad they don't even pretend to have intentions of improving the graphics in this game!...

Well this is the same nonsensical lore nonsense that people have been spewing here for pages. It makes as much sense for there to be male Keepers and Duskwight Elezen as it does male Viera, all of them are incredibly rare when it comes to lore and it makes no sense lorewise for there to be running thousands of player characters playing as them. Why is male Viera different now all of a sudden? Gender politics don't even need to be taken into account to see that there is a problem, we haven't had gender locked races since 1.0, why is it okay now?
