Mostly because they said back then, that they would never again make a Race genderlocked and also showed Concept Art for a male Viera several times.
Then they revealed the Viera without mentioning the "only female" Part and waited 3 Months to reveal the genderlocking.

From my view, this is like asking for trouble.

They have also shown viera mixed with baanga (im not sure if the male viera artwork came after that "joke") and they have said that if Viera gets released they would have to create a male only race.

I 100% agree with you. I hate it when male and female roles are forced this way. Unless those unique character customization features let me make a Hrothgar that is feminine, and beautiful as a male, I will not like this.

Yea agrees I wanted a sleek cute male viera lol they can keep the hrothgar. I think they have typically forgotten that not everyone is the same way when it comes to this concept. Some want hrothgar but others want a more feminine look. Oh well lol guess I'll just switch to female since thats the gender to be at this point between the ugly male hair styles and glamour and soon to be race.

But wasn't the male concept art shown without Yoshi's consent though? I vaguely remember hearing something like this. And even if he gave his approval of showing it, concept art is just that: concept art.

i like eureka and blue mage, i am pretty glad they are experimenting with new content, dungeons and 24mans are currently pretty un exciting.
