I agree that one complete race would have been better than 2 half races but it should have been Viera this expansion, sorry. Their hype goes back to Fran and the Ivalice raids and were the first additional race to truly be planned, not Hrothgar, but were eventually replaced with Au Ra in Heavensward. We might not have "needed" either race this expansion but it's clear that they at least had a plan with Viera which got woven in well with the story of Shadowbringers compared to Hrothgar, which appear to just be thrown in there loosely.

I think we could have both of them. One clan for bigger and more masculine bunnies and one for the more feminine ones and everyone would be happy about the race I think. I really understand the lack of resources and the fact that developers have got too much on their back (Yoshi looked really tired lately), but it doesn't change the fact that we got two half-finished races. I've always told my friends from other MMOs that SE gives you a lot of variety in FFXIV and you can play a cite kitty boy or a very masculine lass and nobody cares about it. Now I don't say anything. I don't agree with all that drama that appeared after the release and I think that many people judged SE unfairly (I really want to believe they didn't have enough time and hands to work on two new races), but every time I go into the character creator I have the feeling from a cheap f2p gender-locked MMO. It's painful. Even though I am ready to support and defend SE's decisions, it's just simply painful.

I do hope they will seriously reconsider adding two missing genders.

Another Midlander/Highlander split would be ideal, yes, but doubtful to happen. Such a drastic difference would be like making a third race. I think even something as simple as height/face difference would consume a lot of time and effort, not to mention Hrothgals
would be made simultaneously.

Height difference wouldn't demand for a lot of time in terms of remodeling clothes, but can take some time to check how they look.
As for faces, they don't affect anything really so it's the easiest change they can do, but I remember Yoshi said something about limitations in character creator itself so they simply can't add too much options. However, I think, having 6 face options, as Midlanders do, is possible.

Divergent builds are a struggle for them, evidently, but a broad enough height slider, like the Roegadyn female one, and a muscle tone slider, can go some way to accommodating multiple tastes.

There is no need for feminine male viera. They are about to come out with the wedding dress for males. Just put that on and play a max short Miqo'te male, with bright pink blush + lipstick.

If we are trying to talk about an actual waste of resources this is definitely it.
