I'll third that - the concept art was very well drawn and would not present overly extreme dimorphism relative to the females, if that is a concern.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Also, please, for the love of god, give them a propper run animation. Something like female viera/female miqote but deadlier and in case of female miqo more elegant, in my opinion would make for a decent one. I really hope it isnt a male au ra case (I just cant get behind the run, even though I LOVE them)While I love the art by glue_stick and wouldnt mind seeing it as our official m!viera, I have to agree (with theodric, would you believe) ) that the original concept art is a pretty good compromise. It's what got most of us wanting them in the first place. Given a good variety of faces that all look good and a similar height range to the females, I think everyone would be happy ngl.
Eeeh yeah, not my intention. While I can't do anything about people quoting me, I'll go back and only leave their twitter handle instead of a link.As a heads up, if you scroll down in the Twitter feed it isn't long before explicit NSFW art and comments can be found. I know it isn't likely to be your intention to breach the terms of service, so I think you should edit your posts and not link directly to that particular Twitter feed any longer.
I would be all for having this sort of face as an option.
And I do agree that the original concept art is the best.
Im super positive that we will get the concept art made playable. I also like their idle stance, looks very regal/elegant but still tribal and fierce
I also think that male viera is most likely to look very close to the concept art.
I want to do some speculation here.
So according to Mugear's translation of what Matsuno said, male viera have "boxer's physique". Matsuno referenced Rikiishi from Ashita no Joe.
What we know from Rikiishi is:It's the one I linked some months ago, about having "a boxer's physique".
https://twitter.com/YasumiMatsuno/st...63923227910145
The phrase inside the parenthesis says "You know that time when Rikiishi did that thing in Ashita no Joe?" with a bit of Japanese word-play involved.
height: 5'11"
weight: 53kg / 116-117 lbs
It's safe to assume male viera will be very light weight. Toned, yes, but slim and light weight.
From the concept art, we can see that the dev team were trying to see what body type would be suitable for male viera.
They tried drawing a concept for a light weight male viera:
This one is a little bit of a heavier weight:
You can tell this one is a heavier weight because this one is more bulky with bigger biceps.
Because of Matsuno's description, I believe we will be getting the light weight versions of viera. (The first two I had posted)
Matsuno has worked on FFXII and other FF titles, and he was also involved with the ivalice raid in ffxiv, correct? I believe Matsuno's description of male viera holds a lot of weight, and who knows, he may even have the final say on their design.
I really, really wish you'd leave Beyonce alone and out of this already. The obsession with her is weird and there's NOTHING about the female Viera that even WHISPERS "Beyonce" to me.
We all kind of already know the male Viera, if they're ever brought in, are going to fit the 4 basic faces all our males typically have. The youthful adventurer, the mature dad, the older gent, and that one that's just kind of over there doing it's own thing not getting used by any one. (Looking at you, Male Au Ra face 4). The bodies will likely match their female counterparts in a more masculine style; buffer, taller. They're not going to go one extreme or the other with them.
Again trying to infer height and weight from offhand tweets from Matsuno is premature. Especially for an entire race with a range of height. And in the end Yoshi P can veto whatever he says anyway since their main concern is how attractive the design is, to bring in Fantasia income, and not some tweets where Matsuno is brainstorming.
I want to make it clear that I'm only speculating.Again trying to infer height and weight from offhand tweets from Matsuno is premature. Especially for an entire race with a range of height. I acknowledge nothing is certain and it's too early to say anything for sure, but I don't think we should dismiss Matsuno's tweet entirely. Since it's him, I think we can put a little more weight in his words when it comes to his tweet about Ashita no Joe. I don't want to presume he's simply brainstorming, either. Perhaps he has thought a lot about this, who knows.
As it stands right now, and with the current information available to us based off of interviews, tweets, and concept art, it's reasonable to assume Matsuno and Yoshida's general idea for male viera is that they are slim. Judging by the concept art, they had ideas to make them toned as well. That's just my guess, but I don't think it's an illogical guess.
Well, we get more story tomorrow, so let's see what it bring. Especially seeing as the new raid is heavily tied into the story.
