Tempering with the lore of your own game is different than tempering with the lore of 4 much older games.

We're not talking about the Viera of FFTA/A2/XII/XII:RW. We're talking about the Viera of XIV. ENTIRELY separate from the old games. The Ivalice of Hydaelyn is NOT the Ivalice of those games, so they can change what they wish.

Also, I personally will be a lala until the day this game goes offline, but I have friends interested in playing Male Viera. An option for a male that is not a muscle-jacked roidhead, and canonically a little introverted is a niche that needs filling, and would be a great option for those who feel that way in life, who like to match their RL and in-game personas.

Altering the lore in XIV has nothing to do with the lore in any of the other games. The vast majority of the FF series have been mostly one off's with only player suspicion and theories to say otherwise, with only a few exceptions. There's been nothing that solidly states that 14 is canonically based in 12's/tactics universe. For all we know 14's universe is an off-shoot to that of 12 much in the same way that 'The First' is an off-shoot to the main continuity of what we played so far in 14.

You mean the same lore where FF12 takes place before FFT the opposite to ffxiv? or the lore that its a fantasy world made up by a kid fyi this is Viera's origin a dream made manifest because a child willed it or the lore that has Vassler and Ashe as siblings rather than lovers or Bah'Gamnan being semi good :P

FFXIV changed the lore for a lot of the past Ivalice games why is Viera so Sacred? I want male Viera not to ERP that is the literal furthest from my mind i want to just play as a Male Viera for content just like you like playing as a lalafell/Dwarf

Only they do, they went to great lengths to establish that they do, Fran tells you that they do, one of the reasons she goes with you to the Monastery is because they'd attack you otherwise.

Male Viera exist within XIV. That aspect of the lore you're holding onto was already broken

Having genderlocked races again is so bizarre when allowing male Miqo’te in ffxiv was such a popular decision. Using lore to explain away male Viera when it’s similar lore to Miqo’te is weak... And then there’s really NO explanation for the lack of female Hrothgar. I’m (probably foolishly) hoping they’ll remove the gender locks further down the line, but this is still a really disappointing situation

When it comes to lore and story XIV functions as a single player game. I see your character is 70, so unless you're the kind of person that skips all dialogue and cutscenes you know this as well.
There's no 2 WoLs in the story, there's you as the WoL and occasionally your anonymous "elite force", which is usually involved in side content not pertinent to the MSQ.
Having Male Viera face against Zenos would be pretty lorebreaking for Viera.

I feel stupid saying this stuff, because it's all very obvious and everyone knows this.
Having one extra skin for your character to RP with on Balmung isn't worth breaking the Viera lore.
Part of the reason they're so requested in the first place is that their lore makes them interesting.
I understand it's pointless to argue with people having a hissy fit (no offense), but in the offchance that any of this reaches the dev team I think there are some things that needed to be said

You do realize they are not shy about changing Lore from other games to fit the ffxiv game all the time?
Lore is literally whatever they want. If it conflicts with the story - then the lore changes.
"Because Lore" is literally an excuse to cover the true feelings the devs and others had. They are uncomfortable with males that are not giant blocky somethings (see hrothgar) and females who arent small and cute lingerie models (see the new fan service race). The reasons tend to range from sexism to homophobia.
I'm not accusing anyone specifically, because I understand caring about the lore of the game. But lore should NEVER justify discrimination. In this case, the devs are not defending lore, they are using it as an excuse to discriminate.

If you doubt that, explain why viera is literally a boob bot and hrothgar are after thought blocky male somethings.

As a matter of fact, 16 years happen to be nearly two decades. And in FFTA they ARE actively shown to be a female only race, which is my point. There have been no instances of male vieras shown or even remotely implied to be likely to show up for the sixteen years Vieras have been a thing.

There is no difference if the creator decided to include them in his next Ivalice game. You couldn't argue about it and you would have to accept it.

Okay, but also people who want male Viera to ERP are just as valid.

But that's why male viera existing in Final Fantasy 14 is so exciting!! Yoshi P saying that male viera remain in the wood is so intriguing to me and I would adore a WOL male viera having the courage to leave a society like that to save the realm! Having both genders would even allow people to roleplay a tribe that remains in the wood to the fullest extent!

But also, playing a normal male viera finding their way out of the wood has so much roleplay potential! Imagine all the possibilities there! Were they kicked out? Did they sneak out of their own accord? Was their tribe wiped out by rival viera and they literally had no where else to go? Oh my god the options are endlessly exciting.

Yeah, if a legit ivalice game finally included them i would be all for it. Except it's not the case yet.
