Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I personally want and would love to play male viera!! Yoshi P said at fanfest that they often remain hidden in the wood, but this alone is an interesting cultural idea I would love to explore in roleplay! Why is this the case? What form does this phenomena take based on tribe? Additionally, a common reason female viera leave the wood is to choose a different life as Fran put it. And there is no reason that some male viera wouldn't choose the same!

Additionally, a male viera WOL would be inspirational and fit the mold of the realm's savior wonderfully. He would be displaying immense courage and dedication leaving his people in order to save the realm!!

No one is asking the devs to get the older games and rewrite them to make things fit. My point is that the Viera can have their own functioning lore in the game we're currently playing and nothing that came from the other ones will change at all. If you can't think of good alternatives for that, maybe trust that they can.

only 3 years differences compared to what you thought was "2 decades"

As a matter of fact, 16 years happen to be nearly two decades. And in FFTA they ARE actively shown to be a female only race, which is my point. There have been no instances of male vieras shown or even remotely implied to be likely to show up for the sixteen years Vieras have been a thing.

I was excited about the Viera reveal at the EU Fanfest but at the same time worried about what we all know today, there's no male Viera yet. I only know Viera from FF11 and Tactics Advance and really like their "style" even though their history is pretty mysterious. It would be a great thing to finally see a male Viera from a official Final Fantasy game, let alone play as one.

Also curious how adding a race takes alot of time and effort not to mention money but I don't recall the overwhelming need for hrothgar compared to male viera....

Dear Yoshi P and Final Fantasy XIV development team,

I am in full support of both Male Viera and female Hrothgar.
However I think that if the decision is made to remove the genderlock that it should not take away from the development of shadowbringers itself or any other content you have planned.

However...

I feel like the delivery of the announcements for these races was bad. The lack of communication with the announcement of female Viera could have been better. It got people speculating and arguing about whether there would be male Viera or not. While this could be seen as getting the community excited and talking about shadowbringers… but ultimately from what ive seen on the forums and reddit I think it backfired. Crap seemed to have hit the fan in the ffxiv community once Hrothgar was announced, which is a very unique race that im sure people will enjoy but I feel like too many people were expecting male Viera. While I myself was disappointed in the confirmation that Viera was female only as I wanted to be a Viera with my girlfriend once shadowbringers came out, I saw the dumpsterfire that was going on with people freaking out over the announcement so I decided to just keep my mouth shut because i was afraid I was going to be associated with the people raging on the forums or reddit. I think all of this could have been avoided by clarifying that the Viera was female only when it was first announced. Sure people would be disappointed that they were female only but they would not have gotten their hopes up for so long that when something they did not want (Hrothgar) was announced they wouldn’t get super angry and take to the internet.

I am not trying to be rude or anything I'm just trying to leave honest feedback.

One way of taking it is that the devs are less interested in rather esoteric political arguments on the matter (particularly this nonsense with the "right side of history" vibe to it) and more interested to simply gauge demand for the race. I for one agree with him that the political arguments should stay out of the equation.

They are likely to be much more interested in metrics like whether this would affect a purchase than being preached at.



I mean, the lore doesn't prohibit them, anymore than mooncat lore prohibits male mooncats or the WoL as a WHM. It's a nonstarter. Regarding your comment about Zenos, I'm not sure how female Viera don't pose the same issue. It's a weak line of reasoning, and the devs don't seem to be dogmatically basing this on the lore... which doesn't even make the argument you think it does.

This has been said multiple times, but I'll say it again:
There's a huge difference between "There are very few Mooncats" and "Male Viera, do they even exist?".
Male Viera are a little more than legend, that's a defining characteristic of theirs that is more essential to them than "They're guys with bunny ears".
At the end of the day the request here is to break the lore that defines this character's 'cool factor' in order to have the equivalent of an Elezen wearing the bunny ears helmet.
I understand if that's something you really want, but it's just not worth it for the game in the long run and it sure as hell is not worth it for the dev team in the short term.

People want a lot of things, that doesn't mean the dev team should cave into every demand. I mean, they caved into giving us Viera, and look at the result.
I'd rather play their game than some conglomerate of ideas patched together from who can cry the loudest online.

I would love to see male Viera just like we got male Miqo'te! Please consider this, I do not know a single person that is happy with genderlocking.
