Interesting to go back and read this thread from 2011 about genderlocked Miqote, Highlander, and Roegadyn.

The arguments against genderlocking are all the same, and remain valid. And once again, the "sexy" slim characters are female-only, and the burly muscly characters are male-only.

As amusing as it would have been to get ONLY bunnybois and burly ladycats, I imagine people would have been upset with that also.

I read on the Japanese forums that they are also asking that male Viera / female Hrothgar be added, so I want to add my voice to that request. I respect that they had only so much time, but I think adding the other sex to both races would be a positive action on SE's part. I loved the concept art for the male Viera, and I am very sad not to see it in game. I hope they rethink this decision and move forward on stepping back their decision to create gender-locked races.

To add - I feel that the dev team's desire to respect XII lore is admirable; however, this is their game. They choose what to keep and what to get rid of in lore and story. They could shift things so that male Viera are acceptable in the game world - and given that this is an MMO and not a standalone game, I feel that this would be a better a decision. We have people who really do want to play Male Viera for a variety of reasons and I think that should be considered.

Definitely hoping Square develops the other genders. I was feeling very excited for Shadowbringers until the recent news about the gender-locked races and no new healer. And the fact that Hrothgar and Viera won't even be able to use basic glamour items like glasses at launch... Y I K E S. A lot of my hype has faded--I honestly wasn't even planning to play a Viera since I still prefer Miqo'te, but my overall feeling is now "If they were this rushed on getting races developed, where else has the development suffered in this expansion?" Are we going to get truly inventive raids, 24-mans, and new content in this expansion to make up for the short-fall on the race development? ...Or is the whole entire game plagued by under-staffing and a lack of appropriate development schedule?

To me, the genderlock is just another sign of the corner-cutting that's grown increasingly obvious with each patch, so I'm desperately hoping they have plans to rectify this issue as soon as possible...

Näää, male Viera never leave their Forest or Village right ?
Except for hunting for Food or taking the young male Viera from the female to take them to their Village, so why should we get the option to play as one ?

It's the exact same thing for male Miqo'te but they're playable.

Yeah.. because they were created for FFXIV, with it's own lore in FFXIV, so up to a certain point they can change the lore if they want to do something new with them, i believe the thing with the Viera is a bit different, i don't think you can compare these two things with each other.
