That wasn't how it played out at all.
Some of the same people initially pushing for child-like viera simply switched to pushing for feminine, androgynous and short viera instead. That more than anything is why there's a measure of suspicion surrounding those pushing for such aesthetics. To say nothing of the fact that it doesn't even fit with how Yoshi-P and Matsuno envision male viera to begin with.
Now, that isn't to say that everybody asking for feminine and androgynous male viera is in the same basket. Though the damage has already been done and the simple fact that Yoshi-P had to state outright that child-like viera will not be added to the game is incredibly troubling.
As for the whole 'ERP' argument. I'm in favour of people acting with dignity. If they do it, they shouldn't wear it as a badge of honour. I've seen some horrid stuff on Balmung and the unfortunate truth is that a growing number of role-players become obsessed with it to the point where it dictates all of their interactions.
The idea that everybody who wants male viera desires them for ERP purposes, however, is silly. Some of us just dig the whole 'fierce forest hunter' aesthetic and they're a close match to that.

I think the term you're looking for is "Dog-whistling", people using events/conversations as an excuse to slip in their own views and signal to other people that share them through coded language. and to be fair, the same thing has happened on the other side of the coin, as people have used the exclusion of male viera as an excuse to spew some rather homophobic beliefs. That wasn't how it played out at all.

Honestly, I for one am in the camp that would adore to have more feminine viera, but this can easily be achieved by the team just putting in the obligatory "young/feminine" facial option in one of the 4 they give upon character creation; every race has one, so I know for a fact they'd get one as well. So I don't know why people are infighting when it comes to the body type/look of male viera, because they won't have one single look. All square needs to do is give us the faces, and give the muscle slider to every race dammit. I will never understand why only hyur have it.
Ironically enough, a JP friend of mine was here when male miqo's were released and commented that various JP players found the catboys too masculine, and felt they did it to appeal to westerners.
I believe Yoshi said that they have the limit for features that they can use. So every race has some unique one, but only one. Let's say... muscles, tails, ears, etc.
To be fair, Miqo'te aren't feminine. But they aren't too masculine, though, they are just athletic.Ironically enough, a JP friend of mine was here when male miqo's were released and commented that various JP players found the catboys too masculine, and felt they did it to appeal to westerners.
I never understood what makes male miqote femenine. Theyre masculine short anime boys
No you shouldn't associate wanting a child-like Viera with wanting a short/feminine viera. I for one stood my ground, and never changed my opinion. That wasn't how it played out at all.

I never said I wanted child-like male Viera and switched to wanting just short male Viera. But you judge someone for being so. I tell you, that's exactly what is happening now.
People are correlating liking ERP with just wanting male Viera. I don't give a donkey's arse about Balmung. People there do it with any race.
I’m not fond of capping their max height below the females but it has little to do with ERP being the concern.
I just dislike genderlock in games especially when it's so stereotypical. Over sexualised bunny girls and big burly lion dudes. Once one Asian mmo does it they all have. Nothing to do with me wanting any kinda erp. My real love life is chaotic let alone a pretend one XD. But yeah my bunny lass looks too stoic at least give the ears a lil wiggle and what is up with that 'joy' emote.

Also, about the lore argument:
People see the world in different ways, and thats completely fine.
I see the viera as a masculine race of rabbit eared ppl, some see it as a femenine race of tribal ladies, and some as sexy bunny girl waifus uwuuuuuuuu, all of which are fine.
Some people believe that the viera is female only, and they are correct. To them it is that way, and they aren't necessarily wrong, they just have a unique opinion thats simply headcannon.
If u dont want male viera, enjoy ur time until 6.0 I guess^^
