If people spending $15 a month just to oogle at their character, I can't call that a good reason to play an mmo.

I'd assume a reason to play an mmo at all is because it's well-made, has a decent presentation, graphics, the community, accessibility, good story, dungeons, raids, gear options, character options, etc,. If character race is the only thing that matter (ones that weren't even at launch btw), why even bother play? It's VERY trivial compared to everything else, especially if you can change your race on a dime.

It obviously matters to people how their character looks and character races are pretty definitive of this. Or maybe they shouldn't have added fViera or mHrothgar since it doesn't matter and these are trivial features... even though they're hoping that they will prove popular enough to result in increased profits? Which is it?

The problem with this line of thought is also that quitting over the missing gender not being added is not necessarily solely due to that. It can be out of a dislike of gender-locks in principle, due to an accretion of different issues (including the aforementioned) leading to dissatisfaction with the game, and so on.

No one is saying they shouldn't care about customizing at all. I'm just saying that alone shouldn't be the weighing factor of staying subbed, compared to everything else. If these races were never announced, no one would be threatening to unsub over racial options. They seemed fine with them up to that point

In similar fashion they could add zero to the expansion and just keep things as they are - why should anyone complain about the lack of new features since they already enjoy the game?

People who care about customization don't literally freaking log in just to look at their character. I'm really getting tired of this strawman
It's just that their character informs their entire gameplay experience. You literally cannot do any content in the game without having your character present. It makes sense, at least to me, to at least want to enjoy the company of that character / want the ability to identify with that character.

It's like.. paying to go to a themepark but being told you have to wear a horrible, itchy wool body suit while you're there. And when asking if you could maybe wear a tshirt and jeans like some other guests get to someone goes "Lul you want to pay $40 to wear a tshirt???"

I propose to simply ignore troll posts and continue with a healthy discussion.
I think it's SUPER interesting that matsuno said on Twitter male viera have a boxer body and he talked lots about them. That makes me really positive hat they have already made a decision but are simply not gonna tell us until the missing genders are released, which makes total sense

I'm very pleased that Matsuno described them as such! If they're tall, at least somewhat muscular and conventionally attractive then I will consider it a win.

Hopefully Matsuno himself gets a strong say in how they are designed.

Everyone has a final straw and one person's trivial is another's final straw. If one of the announcements for 5.0 was "no more savage mode" I would be completely 100% fine with it because I don't do high end raids in XIV. In comparison, I don't think raiders would have taken that announcement very well lol

Customization is important to me. It's ultimately why I quit my last MMO (one I actually did raids/pvp in :P)

From what I've been seeing, ppl want to leave because of lack of male viera lone. If you don't like the dungeon offering or the raid scene or the update cycle, those could be understandable reasons to quit. Saying you're doing it because of the genderlock alone tells me nothing else in the game mattered as much

They can't add "zero" to an expansion, when it was made to "expand" the game, though. An mmo evolves; not sure why this point is being made

The only thing I hope for is that they are elegant and femenine, but I'm not sure if I want bishonen. Their animations could look femenine since no male char has femenine animations atm

I don't want them to be feminine. I want them to be the cool, fierce defenders of the forest they're depicted as. Asking for the existing races to have broader customisation to account for that aesthetic makes more sense to me than hijacking Viera to be something they're not.

And perhaps that is the case for certain individuals. Or perhaps they are sufficiently dissatisfied with enough elements in the game that taken together, this will lead them to quit and stop holding out for improvements.

But that is exactly why I am using that extreme - to make the point that expansions and evolutions on the game matter. Playing the same thing for 2 years, or more, can grow stale. Two races that I don't intend to play because the gender pick I want is not available fall into the category of features that add little for me, much as they might matter to others. Features like new races are added precisely because they're content that matters a lot to players and can add more players to the game.

Which is a strange guess to make given how they have been described by Yoshi-P and Matsuno both in terms of general commentary and within the lore itself.
