Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Indeed! The only other female playable character (in FFTA), Ritz, is treated as a Viera in gameplay-terms, only able to switch between Viera jobs (Mewt, although unplayable, is treated as a Nu Mou...which you'd never know were smaller than moogles going by TA/2, because of the sprites). TA2 did it better by allowing Adel and Frimelda to switch between Human jobs even if the game otherwise treats them as female, and although female Seeqs and Bangaa show up in TA2, none are playable in the way that the game will recognize them as such (by Al-Cid's Agent skillset or the Law system). Point being: going by TA in gender-locking races is a non-issue. :P

I get where you're going with this and your post made me really nostalgic for ffta but Ritz was also treated as a Viera likely because she was living amongst them in that reality. She had Shara as her Montblanc-type guide to things and since Viera are more reclusive when it comes to dealing with other races until she joins the party it stands to reason she only experienced fighting alongside other Viera. I think her being female might have made those Viera accept her more easily but I don't think it's as simple as the game treats any female as Viera.

It's not quite automatic but the skeletons and meshes are designed together in such a manner that morphing is not near as labor intensive as Yoshi-p makes it. I'm not sure why it is for FFXIV -- neither the armor or the animations are very complex and frankly a lot of the armor is iterative.

Honestly, the sooner they develop a way to automate the process (w/ QA review of course), the quicker everyone else who doesn't want male Viera/female Hrothgar can get muscle sliders/butt sliders/Chunky Cats. As it stands now, there seems to be no room for any other body type than the 1 each race/gender has.

That may be the lore reason, I was specifically mentioning gameplay terms (mostly because, y'know, relating it to how zeylos mentions all races are gender-locked in TA lol). In-game, we only ever see Ritz with Shara or her all-Viera clan (before the side-quest where she'll finally join Marche), so how she's treated lore-wise is besides the point (Shara does say Ritz holds "the gift of the Viera", whatever that means, so there IS some sort or lore-reason). Mostly by technical limitations of the GBA, perhaps the only way the game could treat Ritz as female for gameplay (Laws, mostly) would be to sort her into the only "female" slot: Viera. In gameplay terms: Ritz summons the Viera Totema (Exodus) and changes into Viera jobs (Fencer, Elementalist...).

Yeah no I totally agree, I think right now square enix as a company just has really really poor issues with moving staff. Look at the developments of XV and KH3 as examples. One was an unfinished mess and the other feels like it takes more steps back then forward. My only hope is that the VII remake is a major success and can let them pump more money back into other sectors.
