One of the main reasons I liked ffxiv was the near equal variety of options for how male and female characters were able to present themselves compared to most other MMOs. The lack of male Viera and female Hrothgar negates that completely - how many other games (especially MMOs) have there been where male characters are the only ones who can present as monstrous and dangerous and female characters are the only ones who can present as cute or sexual? Taking away the player's feeling of choices when it comes to expressing themselves is never a good design decision, especially when it's one of the features that sets it apart. I imagine it's not possible right now, but I really hope they choose to add them in a future patch or expansion.
Looking forward to Male Vieras someday.
Considering the backlash is even greater than the genderlocked bunny suits I would have a hard time believing they would never respond to the criticism. We might have to wait until 5.4 or 6.0 or however long, but I think we will eventually get male viera. It's best to stay positive about it considering they've listened to fans before, as frustrating as it is that they would falter back to this regressive attitude AGAIN.
Part of me knew going in that we wouldn't be seeing male viera, but an even larger part couldn't accept that until I actually saw it.
It was unbelievable to think they could miss the mark this badly, and so deliberately too. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. It's a bad design, development, and business decision all around, not to mention a huge disservice to the players and a betrayal of trust.
I can't understand this decision.
I was so looking forward to seeing all the bunny boys run around.
I feel awful for everyone what was looking forward to male viera.
