Who's to say the women are the sex slaves in their culture? Much like my tribe of Xaela, maybe the Hrogathar women have whole harems of beefcakes at their beck and call?I also think the breeding slave thing is amiss, but say we're talking about a ratio of 4:1, the replacement rate for a modern population (not subject to such vagaries of life as famines, plagues etc.) is 2.1. Even without making allowances for the population dying off at a higher rate than a modern population (or, on the opposite end of that, having the need to sustain an ageing population), they'd probably need to have 10-15 children apiece to sustain their population. So I agree that the key factor here is the litter size. Otherwise that'd be an awful lot of time spent pregnant and then rearing the young. I think it's fair to assume they have fairly large litters, in that case.
Personally, I'm not too big a fan of these out of whack sex ratios, but I agree that it doesn't necessarily imply they're bound to be having kids their entire life. Maybe 1-2 large litters, and that's it.
Incorrect, viera's first appearance was in tactics advance which was a fantasy ivalice created by mewt taking place in a pre-cataclysm ivalice(2003), at that point it was obvious pre-War of the lions ivalice was either not completely thought out or the ivalice mewt created was a complete fantasy as the next appearance in XII completely revamps the history and culture of the viera and many of the elements from advance no longer exist.
In XII(2006) viera men are mentioned to live in completely separate shelters only contacting females for the sake of mating but otherwise having their own separate society, it was stated that male viera was a cut plot thread from XII due to masuno leaving the development of the game midway, which was the reason why the second half of the game seems more rushed than the last.
Now even if you go by the advance games as proof of male viera never being in lore, Advance2 which is a sequel to Advance, takes place LITERALLY in the same timeline as 12 with both vann and panelo showing up only slightly older, this means that the viera are almost exactly the same lorewise as they are in XII, unless the viera of Jylland have a completely separate evolution from the viera of Valendia, Ordalia, and Kerwon that makes them Asexual, we can infer that males do in fact exist even if they aren't stated.
The Viera of Revenant wings(2007) another direct sequel to XII also share the same lore and region as the XII viera so males exist here as well.
Ergo your statement is basically false, especially if you consider that tactics, which takes place in the far future of Ivalice after the Disaster of Argo made all of the fairy tale races extinct(Viera, Bangaa, Nu mou etc etc) was basically retconned to have the same timeline as XII, Revenant wings and A2. Male viera have existed since the impetus of Ivalice and have in theory been in more games than they have been out of(Advance). I mean Masuno himself has stated he had nothing to do with male viera existing and seems to have an image in mind for what they'd look like.
Unless you count vagrant story, but I'm not sure if we ever received confirmation for where that lines up in ivalice's story, and viera don't show up at all in VS.
@ Hrothgar talk
there is a thread for that guys.
That's brilliant and so much better than the overly feminine or child-like designs that some here have been posting! It would suit them well, given how they're described! One more art. I will just post link:

The Ivalice from the first TA game was purely fantasy, it was created from a wish to a magic book. That's why there's this race of fierce, but cute bunny girls, of adorable little cat looking fuzzballs with poms and of burly lizard dudes. There was no lore for that world beyond what was made from the book. Male Veira appeared in veira lore after that game.Incorrect, viera's first appearance was in tactics advance which was a fantasy ivalice created by mewt taking place in a pre-cataclysm ivalice(2003), at that point it was obvious pre-War of the lions ivalice was either not completely thought out or the ivalice mewt created was a complete fantasy
Exactly, essentially they aren't the same Viera and their lore is based off of pre-cataclysm viera, who were confirmed to have males in their society. Technically tactics which is the first game in the ivalice universe to be release, supports male viera existing as it takes place post-cataclysm and is confirmed to be the true ivalice. So even though they're extinct viera(and their males) once lived there. The Ivalice from the first TA game was purely fantasy, it was created from a wish to a magic book. And you gleefully misinterpreted what I meant. Here's what I said about it in another thread about the same topic:
In this case, contradicting the earlier lore from the dramaturge is rewriting, you countered implying that it's the same lore from XII. If you're not implying it's the same lore, then what are you saying becauseBuuuuuut there's a nice thing in the descriptions that only mentions their opposite sex being "rare" (in both Viera and Hrothgar), opening them up for adding the missing genders later down the road. In fact, the male Viera even contradicts the dramaturge now. "Males of age are seldom, if ever, found within the bounds of any village" instead of "to us, they might not exist" the whole "prohibited from contact with the outside world" would apply to both men and women, as well.
Hrothgar on the other hand, handwaves it even easier, "rarely so much as glimpsed by the other races" still implies they've been seen and we know they exist, and since the PC is always an outlier that belongs nowhere, it's a decent excuse to bring them later down the line
isn't really telling me much. Are you complaining that I didn't say "PLAYABLE" male Viera? Because, yeah, males haven't been playable, that's kind of why we're doing this. Are you saying that, because they weren't even handwaved in TA, they have no business being in any game? I honestly have no idea what you're trying to say. Because what it LOOKS like you're saying is that XII Viera = XIV Viera...which is not true...

I feel like the lore for male Viera and female Hroths is like this snake that eats its own head. Any lore that justifies genderlocks is, really.
Decision to lock race -> lore that justifies that gender being missing from game -> shouldn't have bearing on PC because that's the one (1) individual that matters and therefore would not break the lore by definition -> (playerbase outcry over genderlock ->) genderlock removed (eventually) (hopefully) -> models exist in the game for PCs -> NPCs can be used -> lore explaining gender away is in many ways redundant
I mean I'll give them that male Keeper NPCs still seem to be few and far in between but still
