game needs better male options and male viera seemed really promising
replacing it with another over-buffed up male fantasy stereotype was a disappointment.

So this was briefly mentioned but Viera are a creation of another artist. Does anyone even consider that female only Viera is a courtesy to Matsuno which he has so courteously lent his lore to? Maybe he should screw with Sakaguchi's vision of Terra. Or borrowing and screwing with 9S's lore after the 24 man without consulting Taro. FF14 is borrowing Viera at the request of the fan base and maybe just maybe there were some limitations to that.

You do mean intellectual property rights problems so maybe FFXIV community could request that artist the change for Viera Male introduction?

What I dislike the most, is that they did not even have the courage to outright state this at the last fanfest. Instead they kept it hidden and made some hints that could have been taken either way. Even worse since preorders started a bit later. At least if you do something backwards like that, be good enought to stand up to that decision and not take months to announce it..

Very disappointed by the decision to go with female Viera and male Hrothgar, and with such blatantly sexist designs too. Very much wish to see them add male Viera and female Hrothgar, let's make things equal in here.

This made me both sad and disappointed. I've been waiting for male Viera since they showed us the concept art and now, when they finally announced female Viera it felt so good to be able to play as a male bunny. But nope, genius SE decided to piss off the players. The best thing is I don't even understand why they came up with a different race for males, which basically is a Roe and Miqot'e combination. Also looks awful. They really think so many people will play as that? I barely even see Roes and Highlanders. This new race is just gonna share the same fate.

I truly understand the devs issues with males. Since FFXII, the lore has been that the males are super duper rare and seeing them everywhere suddenly would be silly. Still, I had hoped they could have found some way to implement them. I wanted a viera husband
