Gonna have to say I have no interest in Male Viera or Female Hrothgar, and I find the demands of entitled players to be horribly bad taste. Citing 'it's the current year and gender doesn't exist so give us both genders or we will harass you until you do it' seems to be pretty petty.

I am a 1.0 player, and I don't really seem to recall anyone getting angry over Female Roe's or male Miqo'te not being included back then. It was a carry over from FFXI and I was fine with it.

Claiming that the dev team is somehow homophobic and sexist is probably the most laughable thing I've ever read. Pretty sure that same sex marriage is in the game, as well as plenty of strong independent women who are breaking stereotypes.

General consensus from what I've seen is everyone wants them to be small petite bunny boys. .. And we all know they'll probably be used nefariously by Balmung.

If they ever add them, I am sure they'll be tall and muscular and everyone will be angry about gender stereotypes and blah blah blah. The level of entitlement is off the charts, given that the amount of likes / views / replies this thread has gotten is nearly nowhere indicative of the entire population of the game, and most people I have spoken to outside of this forum, or reddit, have no desire for rabbits.

Seems like another victim of the outrage culture. "Please make this game inclusive." And then when the Devs do, the people pushing inclusivity don't even play the game.

So yeah, whatever, be mad. I'll be over here enjoying Gunbreaker and hanging out with big cat boys and rabbit girls. More for me.

Given your join date is now, I'm not surprised you missed this:

Considering I've never touched these forums until people started screeching about how they are being personally wronged by this whole ordeal, I figured it was time to actually register for the forums. I'll definitely take a look at the linked thread, but I sure as heck don't remember anyone complaining in-game back in the day.

If they add these two genders eventually, sure, great. However, if we end up missing out on potential content because people couldn't stop harassing the Dev team, I would be pretty annoyed. I'd rather have content and stuff to do, than a Viera guy to oogle at.

No one is harassing the dev team, and why people assume making race models take up time for new content most likely already in development as if the Dev team just stops what their doing to work on new content one at a time, is utterly beyond me. Also keep in mind Eureka was delayed by a patch if I recall, so content being late is nothing new that would break the community.

People who claim homophobia and sexism are in my opinion wrong. However it's concerning that after 2 expansions the dev team still seems to be struggling with optimizing their workflow and being understaffed, there SHOULD be a a system in place to deal easily with gear bloat and it's effect on modeling.

My issue is less with the dev team and more with the fact that this game seems to get little to no support from Square compared to games like KH 3 and XV both that despite being financial successes, had varying degrees of quality in their completion and had DLC planned for them to fix glaring issues of incompleteness or confusion with the story. Square should be allocating more resources and staff to this game outside of the fan festival, I know people are going to cite nomura working on Eden or the other guest collaborators as examples but, still those aren't new core additions to the staff at hand.

There are also other glaring issues with XIV's core code and backend problems that just have not been addressed despite us again going through 2 expansions.

Besides that the rest of your post is anecdotal and just sort of shows you haven't really read many of the responses in this thread.

Sadly XIV suffers from that too, as a lot of story elements make it into the stories they release on the lodestone. I recently found out Fordola's story continued in one of the Tales of the Storm chapters...

People keep bringing that up but what content would that even be? And when answering, take into consideration that the developers who would be in charge of making the new models and animations (the bulk of the work, imo) are likely mutually exclusive to many other endeavors such as battle and content design.
Personally, if what it ends up chewing resources from is BLU and Eureka, I really wouldn't mind, and I'm sure there are others who would share that sentiment (even if not regarding those particular bits of content).

How do you think male miqote and female roegadyn got added to the game? Do you think SE just added them out of the blue with no one asking for them?

For someone claiming everyone else to be "mad", your post seems awfully bitter compared to the general positivity going on in the thread.

You are allowed your opinion, as are we all. But please don't discount the opinions of other players. This issue is a culmination of things, not just the lack of a gender counterpart. It's a combo that includes, but is not limited to; misleading the playerbase, back tracking on a previous statement, using "lore" as an excuse, and limiting the inclusivity this game is supposed to provide compared to other current MMOs.

There are many things people "request" but based on the time frame, those request will get mixed in with the current info given to us by the developers. The playerbase have been requesting 3 main things: Viera, another shorter/cuter male from a sexual dimorphic race with larger females, and a more beastial race.

With the Viera, people saw the concept art and were expecting the males to look similar to the females, but did hope they could get the shorter/cuter male out of it as well, since males have no model; and if they were more beastial, bonus. Players also wanted a more beastial race since, every race we have is basically "human" with different ears. But that includes wanting a female beastial option. And the game has many options for short/cute female characters, but only one "real" option for males. Most people just wanted another option, regardless of race.

SE decided to tackle 2 of those 3 requests. But by limiting the genders, they alienated various portions of the playerbase. SE mislead us about Viera, they created the female Hrothgar demand, and by pairing up the two created the gender stereotyping debate. All things that could of been prevented if they had just released one race with both genders.

What they did is not homophobic, nor is it stereotyping. But based on things they have done it appears that way. The initial outrage has decreased some and the players are making more "muted" statements. However, we as a playerbase have to stick together and make SE realize what they did was wrong. Based on a recent interview it looks like Yoshi-P realizes this, as he said in the future they should give a bit more info about certain things so that fan outcry is mitigated. He referenced the Dancer/Healer issue, but it applies to other things, like a race announcement too.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Huh. This is an incredibly interesting point to make.
I'd say according to the poll they alienated quite a bit of the playerbase.

Okay, this makes sense. I guess much of the anger here on the forum itself has subsided, which I only read through the first sixty pages of this topic myself to see what the heck is going on. Over on Tumblr people are still SEETHING about this whole thing and just a complete nightmare to talk to and try to get any reasonable response.

I suppose it was short-sighted of me to come here with the same expectation based on current trends from other sites and prior posts from last week from here. I apologize for being a bully about it initially.

Either way, I am glad the Square Enix is attempting to cater to the wants of various parts of the community, and it was probably a difficult decision; as I know the budget for XIV isn't ever really all that big and a lot of the profits go to other projects and games. You'd think with as many fans the game has, and as much money as it brings in; the execs would be a little more willing to throw more people and money at XIV. :/
