These are actually my thoughts whenever I think of that. You can pretty much say the same thing about humans and puberty too, gender roles aside. I think some of the arguments I've read for them being "androgynous" are ridiculous.

Anyway all the evidence (i.e. character models) points to them looking as they are at whatever age they freeze. So if that doesn't happen until 20 then that's what they look like at 20.

The FFXIV protagonists have always been treated as young adult age.

Females are clearly feminine, males are ambiguous to other races in ways that would make them able to pass for women if they wanted to or if the viewer makes assumptions based on their own race's standards rather than understanding Viera's.

You could even speculate that it's why Viera dress does emphasise their female-ness so it's clearer to them.

Ngl I kinda wish we got Fran's outfit from either the Ivalice raids or Zadnor, but that's just me being salty over SE throwing 3 variants of Penelo's outfit at striking, scouting and aiming, then calling it a day.

Sure that's the meta reason, but then they went and decided that Fran's gear isn't "Fran's gear" but "typical female Viera gear" that everyone wears.

They only ever give us three outfits per gear series, really. And it would probably be strange when from an in-game perspective they'd be giving away Viera racial gear to everyone (including men) but you still can't have the others.

-Male and female are indistinguishable until age 13 or so. Yes.
-The differences between the sexes become clearer after puberty. Yes.
-Do male and female look more alike than different even after puberty? In my opinion, yes.

You literally can't tell them apart when they are younger, so it shouldn't be unreasonable to think that even after puberty, they would still look similar when they are older. That doesn't mean there's absolutely no differences in male and female appearances. They just look similar.

And no, that isn't like actual humans. You can still tell human male and female children apart. With the viera, you can't.

I don't believe this. Like I said in my post, if we remove gender roles. Cut a girl's and boy's hair the same length, dress them in the same clothes, and people will have trouble distinguishing them. It's not uncommon for a boy with long hair to be mistaken as a girl, or a girl with short hair to be mistaken for a boy - this is in reference to gender roles.

You can't tell younger male and female viera apart even if they are wearing no clothes. It's not the same as human children.

Q: "There is no way to distinguish between them" so that means we can't tell their sex even if they were naked?
