I know that Au Ra are a thing, but they had no prior lore to them. They have never existed before or was a reference from any other final fantasy series so it seems like a bad comparison to make. The developers in the recent MrHappy interview said themselves that they are basically Elezen but bunny ears.

Read the last one with MrHappy, he said he will check into feedbacks so the more the feedbacks the better.

Even if it will take time for them to implement them it's perfectly fine.

If we're talking body types, my preference stands with the more athletic taller looking males they showed in their concept art, or like that one fanart with the viera in the half mask.
Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal of them being shorter and slender, but I find myself preferring toned elegance over thin delicacy; now, in a perfect world where character modeling and armor retexturing is not an herculean task, we'd get both models, with the Veena being smaller than their Rava counterparts, or even resembling the Feol more and then everyone would be happy, but we all know, sadly, this isn't the case.

So aside from my vote for stopping the genderlocking, here's also a vote for the more athletic body type.

I'm personally hoping it'd be some sort of middle ground-- not too athletic, not too dainty.

+1 for male Viera! I was so looking forward to buff bunny bois. Diversity of body type and character type and presentation is so important, and so many of us were looking forward to male Viera. The concept art looks so good. *grabby hands*

Inspired by Moose’s post and Happy's interview I figured I’d leave meatier feedback:

To clarify ahead of time, while I am very Disappointed, I don’t really see -phobias or -isms in the split but as someone who went to the recent Las Vegas fan fest and cheered when Yoshi came out in a Bugs Bunny shirt with the expectations of a set of playable Viera, reinstating gender locks has soured the pre-expansion hype for me.

The first time I touched XIV was at E3 when they had Ifrit as a playable demo/booth loot challenge. I was playing another MMO at the time and didn’t want to pay monthly for a game I wouldn’t be on as often as my f2p go-to so wasn’t until a few months before HW’s launch I finally downloaded the trial. My first character was a male suncat. While character appearances and cosmetics might not be important to others my mancat is almost 4 years old now and I still don’t have the heart to change him drastically. With the hubbub of genderlocking I read through the old archived Femroe/Malemiqo/Femhighlander request thread from start to finish. My 1st character exists in part to their tenacity and in part to the devs for listening.

Hrothgar are seemingly inspired by Ronso, a race that has females present in their game appearances (I had one in my blitzball team). Though I would not play as one, it doesn’t seem right to outright exclude them when they kinda already have a base to go off of and were in the original running for being implemented. And for male Viera, this game’s concept art is the closest we’ve ever gotten to one. Matsuno’s tweet made it sound like he wasn’t opposed to their inclusion in XIV, and as a theme park mmo this game is probably the best chance us Ivalice fans will have at seeing/playing as one since its been over 10 years since we got a game in the Ivalice series. Personally, when I posted in previous Viera request threads, I wanted a set of a female Viera and a male Viera.

I don’t expect results immediately or even a somewhat definite sounding answer in the near future, but I do really hope that the devs see the feedback and are able to implement the missing genders in a future expansion. Yoshi’s made it clear that it’s a lot of work to create the base models themselves and then more work to adjust previous gear to fit them but if these are to be XIV’s final races I would like both to be complete with a male and female option for anyone who’d want to play as them.

I don't play as a male character but I don't support gender locks at all. I'd probably fantasia to a female Hrothgar instead of a Viera if they added it but I don't want one without the other.
