Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Somebody said that Elezen males are androgynous. No, they are not. They have definitely masculine faces with a bit more slender, but still bulky bodies. Please read a bit about adrogyny before stating something like this.


And maybe it's a bit unpopular opinion, but I don't understand SE politics. They support LGBT rights (and they have every right to do so) and they add many features to show it in the game (like the wedding dress for male characters), but still refuse to add non-gender stereotypical races. It's illogical. It's like they told us 'You can identificate with anything you want, as long as you are a super cute kawaii desu sexy waifu (or Amazonian woman, but still a sexy one) or a big, bulky and definitely masculine man. Non-sexualized feminine character or a more delicate men are no-no here.' It's just not fair and tiresome. I really appreciate ESO's character creation where you can play a big and ugly female or Aion's where you can play a very masculine big bulky man or a very delicate androgynous boy and nobody cares about it.

Yoshida himself is a short and very slender man (like a lot of japenese men). Does he look like a child? I also just googled up androgynous /feminie men and none of those very first pictures look like children for me. Seemingly a young Jonny Depp once counted as having feminine features too.

Yet I see no one asking for male Viera with a face like Yoshida. (no offense intended)

I am talking about the whole look of someone, and just brought him up as an example. (Not that anyone would want a certain face) Yoshida is a slender and not very large man. He is 100% unmistakely a man. Right now with his mustache even more so. But older pictures show a very smooth face that goes more towards an androgynous person than a very manly man. Yet I doubt anyone would mistake him for a child.

There is more to something being a child than a certain height and muscle mass. Of course if they would give them a baby face then this could get more into that territory but most faces tend to be much more mature, even if they are androgynous or more feminine.

I have been in this thread from the very start and I have yet to see the big amount of people that wanted them as children. Or that those that wanted them that way suddenly changed and now push for another agenda. Maybe there are some that fall in both groups but I doubt that this is the case for anyone that wants a more androgynous male.

Yoshi-P made a statement explicitly stating that male viera will not be looking like children or young teenagers. He didn't say that for no reason, or because a few individuals were pushing for it to happen. He did so because there was a very troubling amount of people pushing for it earlier on. Naturally the more questionable posts, especially those with suggestive images, have since been deleted from this thread.

It's one of those things that businesses are not going to bring up for no reason. He identified a troubling element within the FFXIV community and he spoke up to address it. Due to the naming and shaming rules in place I obviously can't point out the exact names of posters who were pushing for child-like viera who are now attempting to get for them to be as close to that aesthetic as possible.

As for what another poster stated in regards to LGBT matters...as a gay guy myself, personally I'd prefer to get some eye candy out of male viera in the form of a tall, classically handsome guy that is fairly well built without being super bulky. Feminine and androgynous men do nothing for me as an aesthetic.

Of course there's more to it than that, but how clear of a distinction can you make in a game with limited customization like this one?

As of right now though Yoshida is basically on record saying he already finds bunny boys "weird" which is an unfortunate thing to say but ok. They're already kind of grossed out with the community and even gave "us" a scolding on a live stream for what people were doing with Ryne's model and Lalafell. There might have even been bans? Can't remember. So they're already hyper aware of what they're putting out there and what people are doing with it, and even made a statement to the effect that anything young looking is off the table.

They're not going to touch anything remotely androgynous, small, or soft looking with a 10 foot pole. Especially rolled into one (you mentioned Omega M, who is quite tall so I doubt that'd be off the table.)

I'm not calling anyone creepy or a pedophile or anything like that because I don't know any of you well enough to make such a statement, but there's a disconnect somewhere between what's being asked for by some and SE's hesitancy to give even an inch of that.

With everything that's happened and that has been said I'd be very surprised if they didn't just play it safe and they'd end up pretty much like their concept art. IF they were to do them at all. And that's unfortunate for people looking for something very outside the norm of what they've done so far, but it looks like this is where we're at.

I want to play a fat woman with a massacred face (not a little scar, I mean half of it at least). Could you tell how many options do I have?

Women's faces are quite literally more childlike.

The changes that testosterone causes specifically in facial bone structure (widened jaw bone, longer nose, brow ridge) and subcutaneous fat content (which is much higher in women and children than in adult men) are what make a "masculine" face, apart from facial hair which is an obvious extra layer here.

A man with a more neotenous face also has a more feminine face because a feminine face is more neotenous by default. In short the things that make you look more youthful also make you look more feminine.

Asking for feminine men is asking for men who look young.

There's other MMO's out there that allow for such customisation, though the number of people embracing such aesthetics is typically very small.

To be honest, your post makes no sense (I'm not going to sound rude, of course). We already have more delicate male faces in the game, so you really can create a man who looks like a teenager. The problem is that due SE's strange politics even those characters have got bulky bodies. It just looks strange.

And I really do not understand all that 'young looking characters are bad' argument. Just look at AuRas - big, bulky and badass definitely adult men who mate with women who look like teenage old girls (and some of their faces are VERY childlike) who are a lot shorter than them. For some reason it's totally normal and people are okay with it, but asking about male race that look a bit more feminine than their females is something bad and is treated like a perversion? Do you even realize there really are men who look like that and are adults? Of course, most of adult men have got wide bones or brow ridges, but not everyone is like that and we vote for people who aren't and/or feel more comfortable with more feminine look. As I many times before, nobody is asking for children - it's just your interpretation. And by saying that androgynous men are child-looking (lol they're not, the can look feminine, but they obviously don't look childlike) and because of it their needs should be just brushed off aside, is very offensive. You don't have to agree and you can your own vision of how a Viera male should look like, but please do not misinterpret others and at least try to understand them. Thank you.
