+1 for male viera & female Hrothgar. ^^
I've just signed up to show my support for both female Hrothgar and male Viera. My main is a male Miqo'te, so of course I would also love to see male Viera! Please consider adding it in the future.
What would make you think that Square Enix would now all of a sudden create a male Viera when they don't even originate from here? If they were planning on showing a male Viera, they would've done it with FFTA or FFXII and its various spin-offs. It's much easier to alter the body proportions of an existing race (Midlander females) and call it something new (Highlander females) than to start out and create and new model from scratch. Plus, the time and resource it would take to plan out and create a male Viera isn't worth the trouble. I know most of the people here would want a male Viera, but realistically it isn't gonna happen. The ones who care for a male Viera are most likely the ones who are more interested in the "eye candy" aspect, which honestly, seems like a selfish and entitled wish. The resources and time would be better off spent on other aspects of the game.
Edit: I see that there is official concept art, my apologies.

Oh please. They basically took Roes and added fur textures to make Hrothgar. Making male Viera using current resources would be no issue. Rather than them needing to direct resources from somewhere else, Square should simply give the game a better budget. The game makes Square enough money as it is, they could certainly stand to spend a bit more money on the game. What would make you think that Square Enix would now all of a sudden create a male Viera when they don't even originate from here? Outside of various fanarts, there hasn't been any official proof of what a male Viera looks like. FFXIV has created second genders for previously gender-locked races before, in both the Miqo'te and Roegadyn, and then tweaked the lore to make it work. They're no stranger to doing that. What would make you think that Square Enix would now all of a sudden create a male Viera when they don't even originate from here? And if you're going to use the argument of wasted resources, the devs didn't actually need to implement new races at all. Of course it's a vanity thing, it's about giving players options that entice them to stay subbed to what is, at the end of the day, a product. The whole point of this thread is to show that enough people care about keeping races non-genderlocked that it is worth developer time and trouble.
Also, it's untrue that male Viera don't exist outside of fanart. SE has their own concept designs from back when Viera were considered for Heavensward, which were shown to fans back in like 2015 or something. Clearly at one point, male Viera were on the table, and I sincerely doubt that there was only one batch of concept art for them done. Sure, concept art is a very, very early stage of development and concept work gets discarded or altered until it's unrecognisable all the time, that's just part of the creative process, but what I'm saying is that the most basic foundation is already there.
Haven't ever posted on the forums before but, I've come to help support the call for Male Viera. While there is a in lore reason why Males aren't seen that... only reinforces the idea that finding Male Vieras as adventurers would happen even more so if they don't stick around a specific village (in my own opinion). Beyond that, Male Miqo'tes were very much in a similar boat before, yet their introduction hasn't ruined the immersion into the lore of the game to my knowledge.
On top of all that, depending on how the race would be implemented, having more representation of unique body types. FF14 has always been a fairly good model for being all inclusive in genders. Females are wear revealing clothes all the want, Males will be subject to just as revealing clothes too. Males get bulky armor, so do the females. Couldn't males also get their lovely bouncing bunny friends? Shouldn't both genders get an opportunity as Male Vieras very clear do exist?
Apologies if this has been posted, but I think the answers in this interview are quite positive. Transcript is in the description.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Just because gender locking races was common in FF11 doesn't mean 14 should start doing the same. Genderlocking races is an outdated concept that simply shouldn't be in any mmo anymore. The game thrives on how much cosmetic freedom it has and decisions like this are only limiting the options for the playerbase. I hope that the dev team can reconsider.
I finally got around to making a profile on the forums just so I could show my support for Male Viera and Female Hrothgar. (I'm fond of the nickname Hrothgirls personally!) I understand that time and resources are always limited, but I trust the devs can make this work one more time! And the fact that they're already asking for feedback is encouraging!
Just remember to be kind people.
