Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Not necessarily true when FFXI released Lehko Habhoka who is a male mirtha as an npc yes the players wanted the male mirthra as playable but when it turned out they would not be playable we XI players did not rage, disapointed yes but were happy we finally got to see one.

FFXI was a very different game with a very different community on a very different time when things like forums (or the internet in general) werent nearly as active as they are now. If they released NPCS of the missing genders without making them playable, there would probably be even more outrage than in 5.0's announcement, which is quite likely the biggest outrage in the game's history since 1.0 released as far as I'm concerned, so if they cant add them I truly expect them to not add an NPC with their models

Wasn't it said at one point in this thread that people would be Happy to see NPCs, because it means "The Missing Genders" are being worked on?

Making one model with one set of armor requires all but a small fraction of work that goes into making a fully playable and module with armor model.

Having a NPC would be something and I would be all for it.

You know at this point if they are not giving us male viera or female hrotgar as playable can we at least have them as npcs? I mean if FFXI did it with the one lone male mithra I'm sure FFXIV can have npc's of them.

Are you trying to incite the mob?? Kidding, but as cool as that sounds I would much rather they release another Ivalice game that heavily features a male viera if they go that route. Hell, I would rather that happened BEFORE they ever come to 14. Flesh them out, give us something to have fan service for. One of the reasons I didn't much blink at au ra was because they were new and had nothing substantial behind them. This changed in HW, but the rollout reception was lukewarm for me.

Just remember that FFXI had one male mithra as an NPC Lehko Habhoka after years of the mithra race being female only, there was no mob then lol, yes the XI players were disapointed they couldn't play as a male ( because in lore the males were rare and hidden away by the females ) but they gave us one because we wanted to at least see one.

While I still hope for Male Viera and Female Hrothgar to be added, I do think that if they can't or won't add them and it is final, then they can at least give us NPCs. They do seem to add NPC's of other races that aren't playable and presumably won't be playable. (Baanga and Lupin) For me, I don't really need to play as them, but I would like to at least see them. Heck, they could even make a semi-important side character from an expansion or content as one. (Kind of like Magnai, Important Lore wise, but not a major character we will see often - though I do miss him as he was always funny. )

It's a bit silly that Viera and Hrothgar can't wear many pieces of headgear, though that's just their version of the limitations other races suffer. You can't have proper eyebrows as a Highlander male. You can't separate horns from faces as a Raen or Xaela. Sure, they could fix the problem for the newer, flashier races but it'd be more efficient to do it across the board or not at all. I know many people who would play a Highlander male if only they could design one with eyebrows and a better looking face. I guarantee, with the physique they have, they'd shoot up to one of the most popular playable races in a matter of months if that happened.

I still fail to see how proper eyebrows even compares to viera/hrothgar not having any hats! It's simply not comparable. Having no eyebrows isn't even a limitation, it's an aesthetic design choice. People have been asking for the original races to be fixed for longer than Viera/Hrothgar have been around as playable options. It's also a questionable design choice given that Highlander women don't have the same limitations. Personally I wouldn't even be as bothered about the lack of Viera men if Highlander men were adjusted to have better looking faces...and eyebrows.
