Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Please SE keep the races how you plan them to be. Please no Male viera and no female hrothgar. I feel it gives more uniqueness to those races with the genderlock.

If you're going to go with lore as an excuse, Dancers in FFT were female, Bards male.

Yeah, different in 5, but that just shows this shouldn't be.

My impression of it was that they wanted a race that would enable them to target a demographic that exists which prefers bestial races, possibly a senior management expectation to help capitalise on players from other MMOs who are not considering this game due to the lack of such an option. I don't really think this is that large a demographic, as from what I've seen there's other issues putting players from other MMOs off this game, which take precedence (and which the devs have an awareness of, so we'll see what the job changes bring with them), but putting that aside, it seems like it was a question of adding a race the management (and perhaps some of the dev) team think will boost sales, and one which there is already strong existing demand for. Not so much that they begrudgingly had their hand forced by the playerbase. In any event, there is a big positive here in that all this means they appear open to adding the other gender when they figure out how to go about it.

You are correct in that there are most likely other factors involved that we are unaware of. But I don't think the boost sales tactic applies as much. Not saying the sales wouldn't be boosted, but the high demand for Viera comes from an already established playerbase, the curiosity about a more bestial race too.

Either way I am bummed, not that I was gonna change per SE, but my friend was, and he is pissed. Honestly, the way this reveal was handled, I don't really wanna see any Hrothgar or Viera at all, though I realize that's just me being petty to a degree. Plus did you notice in the trailer how they slowed down on the Viera Dancer. I get it's for the "Dancer" but with this news it feels a not like a slap in the face.

Until we here more I shall be donning my bunny ears in support of the cause. To male Viera and female Hrothgar.

I have to admit as a long time player of FFXIV since 1.0, fan of Square and the Final Fantasy brand, it sincerely disturbs me to see the development team and Yoshi making design mistakes that they made with 1.0, vowed they would never do again, and yet here we are. It's disheartening, disappointing, saddening, and makes me feel betrayed and lied to. In the end I would rather have no new races, then what they have offered us currently. Put that time into other areas of the game if you are not going to do it right.

Half of a race makes the game feel incomplete. Making the large, muscular body type male-exclusive while the thin, lithe body type is female-exclusive feels regressive.

I definitely support adding in a male option for Viera! I was really looking forward to making one ever since we learned the lore about them in-game. They're so cool sounding!

I recently started playing FFXIV after dropping it for a long time because ARR was rough to get through.
I picked it back up and started playing it with my group of friends. We made it to Heavensward and we were all having a blast! The game is really really fantastic and the story was just starting to pick up when I caught the livestream.

Genderlocking race's is just such an incredible disappointment. Especially with this game's track record of making these mistakes only to fix them later.

I understand (or at the very least hope) that this decision was most likely not made out of malice. That this is a lot more complicated and messy than it is at first glance. But it's still a bad look and leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I was angry at first and now I'm just extremely disappointed and disheartened. FFXIV is the best MMO out there currently in a time where MMOs are a dying race. I don't want to stop supporting the game but I also cannot support a game that thinks genderlocking races is okay. It breaks my heart because I was deeply enjoying the game and enjoying playing it with my friends.

I hope that this is just a misstep and I can return to the game that I was enjoying.

Please make Male Viera playable! We were promised no more gender-locking. We know that this can't be fixed immediately but please try for 6.0!
