+1 and another player who just signed up to the forums to bring up my voice.

I'm a new player. And when I say new, I mean I started tenatively playing when i started hearing the rumours about the Viera being implemented. So far, I'm liking the story and playstyle, but I wanted so badly to play a viera guy. when it was told that 'More informatin regarding viera would be announced later', I and many others took it and ran with it. Because there's no way a company would let the hype build up like that only to say 'nah', right?

    Well. Look at that.

This decision is the opposite of the 'progressive' image this game seems to want to tout. Gender-locking a race is something I've passed over other MMO's for, and honestly, I feel like I'm going to drop this one pretty quick because I do not want to give my money to sexist companies. And, no, the 'BUt LORE!' excuse doesn't fly when, even at a low level, I see a lot of things that make me go '...what?' in this game.

Please, continue being progressive and introduce male viera and female hrothgar. Hell, focus on the male viera and scrap the hrothgar until they can be given proper beastial features and not a lion's head pasted on the Roe body!

Sorry to burst your bubble, pal, but SE isn't entitled to give you everything that you have in your personal wishlist. Yeah, it's lore reasons and probably an even bigger reason as a whole that Viera have NEVER EVER in the entire franchise had male counterparts shown or playable, what we'd get at most is CONCEPT ART. There's nothing ""sexist"" here because neither sex was put below or above the other. There's a male and a female, end of.

Genderlocking the way they have is absolutely the product of a sexist ideology. Yet again they have given us hyperfeminine females and hypermasculine males, only this time they are separate races. People are tired of being told that men should be this way and women should be that way. It's sexist nonsense.

Anyone who thinks bunny girls are okay but bunny guys are "weird" is straight up practicing a toxic bias that is borderline bigoted. What does that mean? Our friendly neighborhood google tells us that to be bigoted is to have a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others.

SE will never be free of the criticism because we've been putting up with this stuff for FAR too long, both in game and out. This outdated practice needed to die yesterday, and a quick look at history will tell you how people respond to discrimination.

If you need a hint, it's not happily.

Eh. Japan having a conservative culture makes it understandable why SE would behave a certain way, but something being understandable doesn't also make it acceptable. They're a large company with enough money to have a research and marketing team. If they want to market to a global audience, they need to tailor to global tastes.

I like SE. I love their games. I'm going to continue playing FFXIV, but it's also okay for folks give them respectful critique of their product to help them improve upon it.

Critique SE at will, I'm not going on against that here. I'm saying that because you want your agenda to be pushed and your own mental wishlist, then bemoan and throw tantrums because the devs decided to not do it marks you as a hormonal teenager.

They DO have the right and freedom to do what they want with their source material, be it conservative or otherwise, they own the game, they own the races and they'll make them as they see fit. Stop trying to project your worldview on a video game you don't own or have any input in developing.

I mean, that's why the forums exist. This is always projected as the best way to get in contact and let our thoughts be known to the developers of Final Fantasy XIV, an online game that is constantly being updated. Why are we recommended to post on the forums about any issues or suggestions we have? So that those issues and suggestions can be forwarded to the development team. And if enough people raise a raucous, they're gonna have to address the problems at some point. Bear in mind, they made bunny suits available for both genders after people made a concentrated effort to inform SE how much they wanted them. It took time, but SE listened. People are right to post on the forums to share their discontent with these decisions.

The North American side of the forums is much less organized than the Japanese end of things, but I believe our side is also much more vocal. That plays a part in much of the proceedings. We've got a billion threads on the issue, but I don't see that as a problem. This is a fresh issue and people are fired up after hopes were raised. It was bound to happen. Thus all the feedback.

That was back during 1.0 when they desperately needed to regain fans and subs trust again, it's mostly just used for---the odd community thread. They also rarely listen to or address the english forums. From what I hear the JP audience is more likely to get a response and they seem rather ambivalent to the whole affair.

If you can forward a better way to interact with the developers outside of fan fests and being even more obnoxious using real life methods, please do.
