Clearly you don't know that South Park The stick of Truth had to censor out Randy from being probed for EU countries having a specific censorship image over it while NA was perfectly fine, so yes companies DO have to change their content depending on the region they want to sell to, FFXIV would be no exception.

Way to go being dismissive of a good amount of people, Western Audience IS NOT JUST NA get over yourself and anyone else who thinks this you do not own western culture, just like Japan does not own eastern culture.

Well, if you want to add EU and NA together, we can add Japan and China together. Think China's Active players was 437,000? Won't show on census ofc.

By that logic, if you don't mind me using your own against you too much, they could dismiss NA and EU entirely! And yes, we know EU and Australia has weird censoring laws as does United States. Cursing evil in America, T&A is fine. Aus and EU being the exact opposite of no T&A and bring on the curse words.

So, technically you can't lump EU and NA together, hmm... So guess EU has no ground if want to go by your logic, since the lowest at 147,000 active. Now remove some more from NA since there are Aus players, etc. Japan even without China still comes out on top -_^

Silly logic, I know, but did it that way to point out how yours is flawed. If we could get exact raw numbers, I'd be willing to bet my home in Nara that Japan is the most active players if stick to that census, once all things are fully separated to their appropriate countries.

Did ya know a lot of Japanese players play on the Primal Data Center? To just play with friends? Why if go off that census alone, you're not getting accurate information really. I know Aus players who play on Japanese Data Center and NA Data Center too. It's all just a mess you can't really and truly add up.

Which leads to the original point of what started all of this pages back, I'm not for any censoring and not a care of others getting censored due to their region. More importantly what spurned all of this, Japan rarely if ever cares about western reviews, period. So someone saying that without Male Viera that the game will get bad reviews, just needs to look at all the current ones talking about it(aka, all the 'major' game review sites already covered this.) Games still doing fine even with every article mentioning the gender lock.

The Americas is the NA datacenter which SA has to use since there is no SA datacenter. So lets take your numbers from your census, a combined market zone comprising of 2 regions is matched at half by the Japanese market. By analytics the largest market is the Japanese market from both the Active Characters and All Characters, comparatively.
Lets combine the NA/EU markets together, the Japanese Market is again about half.
Across both active and total characters, ignoring all the combined markets this is how it breaks down:
NA market is roughly 4% active to total characters, EU is 3%, and the Japanese is 7%.

Market size isn't determined by the total number of regions you can comprise into a populace. If it takes 3 market populaces to match a single populace in another market the largest market population is the one with a single market, and since FFXIV isn't popular in China, the japanese market is singular. And I'm sure you can agree that if FFXIV was popular in China it would dwarf the NA/SA/EU market sizes.
Its not being dismissive, its acknowledging that regional markets are a thing and are valued differently.
Now, yes, every market gets censorship based on its regional laws and values. There are tons of games that get ported where theres censorship to deter backlash or to be compliant with laws. That has nothing to do with what I said. Companies like Sony and Nintendo aren't doing the level of mandated (more in the case of Sony) censorship because they think its going to get them a larger profit. Otherwise EA would have raked in the cash with BF5, and they didn't. But thats a completely different discussion.

TBF the only 'reliable' data would be the Chinese version numbers since they have their own version of the game with it being patches behind the one we all play here which would also discredit them from being added with japan data since they are playing 2 different versions of the same game despite both being Eastern cultures.

But since this is derailing the thread and it certainly does not need to be bloated more with this argument i'm willing to drop this here if you are i just found it kinda rude to dissociate places like EU and Australia etc from being Western cultures like we do not get a say in the matter of such things.

That said, yes, I consider the issue of the sales to be related to the addition of the missing genders, as the company is likelier to consider it if there is profit to be made out of their addition, to justify the cost.

That being said, if Yoshi already said "Its not an issue that can be solved with more people or money" I don't think Sales of ShB will exactly solve it or get the Genders quicker.

I saw this on twitter, there's other fan art that shows up in the tag but not sure if its safe to post/link. The artist of this one is @lyquid_parade. It seems people have not dropped the topic there either since the latest tweets referencing them seems to have been made within the last few days, though this drawing was made in July.
