Eh, if I'm honest, I'm not a huge fan of it as a plot device. It has too grave an impact, thus the role it serves in the MSQ. I think the threat of its encroachment forcing them out may be better than actual use.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:

Honestly I feel there doesn't need to be an actual "lore" reason. Au Ra kinda needed it because they wanted to use NPC versions in Eorzea but we've gone beyond the continent, it could just be that the player M!Viera came to the decision to leave the Wood just like F!Viera are able to. Maybe have some captured Viera of both genders being forced to work for the Garleans in their homelands since we should be going there next and boom, there ya go for a lore reason for Males suddenly being seen outside their homeland.

words for the spoilerHasn't Zenos effectively ended the use of black rose though? He killed his father for this specific reason because it would interfere with his hunt. He also called the usage of it "cowardly".

There's no need for lore reasons to add them.
Just take it back before AuRa was released. Didn't Yugiri cover her face to not scare the people since they never seen an AuRa before.
And that everyone could be AuRa I didn't see any lore reason to explain how suddenly there are AuRas everywhere.
Atleast that is how I remember it.
It has always felt odd when a new race was added just like that, with no impact on the world or gameplay interactions.
It's just like they have always been there from the very begining.
Ijust want to see the original post get up to 2k likes.
I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.

I said it then but was told that the area on fire in the ShB trailer was in Grindania... Now that we know better, it isn't a stretch that another attack will come to same area, that said attack could explain why Viera males could see the benefit of coming out of the forest to protect their home. One can only so much when the enemy enters the wood, as opposed to another simply attacking it from without with a savage rain of fire. Master "Matoya" did say "I'll hold the line until our friend returns." The story is no yet done, i can see the narrative being used to explain their inclusion.

That is a great point. I did not think about that exact phrase. We hadn't been there yet so we couldn't return to anything. It could just be a lost in translation thing but that would be interesting. However as far as we know no one but the WOD can go between worlds so they would need to introduce them in the source not the first.

Actually this has already transpired. You can see the area that was attacked and they speak about it in depth. The 'encampment' in Ra'tika wood which was burnt down is this area, if you go back and watch the cinematic - the towers that are remaining also match as does the surroundings. A lot of the night blessed died during the blaze. The location is called Fort Gohn. Edit: And I totally misread because you're not referring to that attack as being part of the future. There are less than 10 Vii males left, considering how they're noted to be nearly counted upon one hand. While we might see one male Vii, it's unlikely that they would risk coming out into the open where they could all be slaughtered and thus all of the Vii race would be doomed... unless male Viera from the first - the PC included - could well... help with that. Apologies for misreading!

It's actually a lot more likely that the area that is containing information about Zodiark may be mirrored in the source so it may be within the woodland where the Viera are - and thus protecting just like their Vii counterparts. The wood spirit they may be listening to and worship might actually be the mother crystal.
Zenos is hinted towards gaining the power of Zodiark for himself so we can have an epic battle. It might be that he goes into this woodland as well as with the 'empire' that is now his. In order to get what he desires. Though, he can one man army it.

On the spoilers...
We'll see whether Zenos retains any involvement with the Empire, especially depending on what happens to Gaius. Zenos didn't like the Black Rose but only because it would have interfered with his hunt. That doesn't mean he wouldn't use it under other circumstances... or if he realises it might bring about the Calamity he needs for Zodiark to be summoned. There's so many other ways that SE could make that happen, though, including sacrificing some other shard, or making use of the alternative timeline in some respect (since the Calamity has occurred there... if Elidibus were to figure out how to link them, he could go into the future like G'raha came back from it, and see to Zodiark's summoning there.) Good point on those murals - and perhaps even more information than that - being hidden in the Viera homelands. The Source has endured multiple calamities, which may have shifted the location of some areas relative to more unblemished worlds, like the First. I'll bet you anything, though, Zenos will settle for Hydaelyn if he can't get what he wants. The conclusion of the Dalmasca raid sidequests had the Legatus (Gabranth) acquire Construct 7, with its ability to open up portals to just about anywhere. He had intended to provide this to the Emperor, but he's dead now. That would give Zenos one way to get places, and also a reason to be nearer to Dalmasca if it's not shipped to the Empire and they opt to use this plot point.
