What I find really strange is that Yoshi P recently in an interview stated that he didn't want the males and females to have different dances with DNC.
So, that poses the question *why make this decision*.

I agree, and not just for the male Viera, but also for female Hrothgar as well. It would be nice to get a more "feral" or "tough" style of female character to play, since none of the female options right now currently fulfill that niche; even the female Roegadyns are still far less physically imposing than their male counterparts.
I understand that dev time is limited, however, and would merely like an assurance that male Viera/female Hrothgar will be worked on in the future, when huge deadlines are less imminent.
Yoshida and developers, to solve this problem and to bring peace to these shattering hearts all over the globe, please introduce Viera as a non-binary race. With that said, this will provide, all that are deeply sad or disappointed the feeling of being represented on the race, as we all know, that everyone, can, anytime, play any race, as they want, and it even has a name called role playing. With all repect that I have for you Sir Yoshida, with all respect I have and admire of your work, probably already got informed that in FFXI, we had GALKA, that was like a Roegadyn with tail, and long time ago, people (players/non players) started to questioning the lack of female gender of GALKA. There was a interview with the producer where he assumed GALKA was male but being male is only a gender, this doesnt means the sex. Viera being non-binary would bring up to everyone the knowledge of what is a non-binary character and end for all this discuss about not having a gender relate character. Dispite of the "female" look, Viera could really be a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither in their gender expression.
Looking foward for the next expasion <3
PS: If Yoshi and the developers see your post, I hope that they also will see mine.

Yep, they're taking risks all right, but not in any of the areas people have been asking them to do so. All of this has the hints of the senior management trying to see how much they can get away with on a shoestring of a budget, for one of their bigger moneymakers.I'm not sure why people keep pointing to an interview from SIX YEARS ago as if everyone should have known that be heart. Not everyone consumes the same amount of information outside of game. Not everyone goes to the forums, subreddits, discords, etc.
I think what bothers me more about all of this - more than the white knighting "go delete yourself" crowd, more than the "give me what i want or I will try to incite a riot" crowd, more than the "i don't care you didn't get what you wanted I DIDN'T GET WHAT I WANTED" crowd, more than the fact than the Hrothgar literally look like Roes that escaped from a Furry convention - is not so much the decisions they made, but the willingness to do it at all...
Yoshi and the dev team - all of them - they are smart people. They knew there would be backlash from this, and I don't believe for a second otherwise. To be fair, anything they did would create some level of backlash, but they knew this would be pretty polarizing. And this recent trend of making polarizing decisions is what's more concerning to me than anything else.
- BLU as limited job
- Viera genderlocked to female only
- Hrothgar genderlocked to male only
- Dancer as a Ranged DPS / No new Healer role job
- Using one of the main races as only a beast tribe in the "new land"
- Reusing / Repurposing 1.0 assets into a "new land"
- Going back on previous statement to where now not all headgear will be visible on Viera and Hrothgar
It's been one hit after another lately, and that, more than anything, is concerning to me. They went the route more likely to upset the larger group of people by genderlocking two races instead of making one or the other and not genderlocking. They went the route of putting in a limited job instead of a full job, based on whatever justifications were used on a given day for it, potentially upsetting more people than if they had either put in a full job version or not at all.
I hope something is done soon before this trashfire gets any worse.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:

FFXIV has commonly been lauded as a welcoming space for a diverse range of players, but recent decisions — from in-game items to the latest news — are sending a vastly different message. It should come as no surprise that consequently, a significant portion of the playerbase feels disappointed and alienated.
There is no justification for the re-implementation of gender-locked races. There are many reasons, repeatedly and clearly articulated by many voices, to amend a decision that amounts to a step taken a decade backward. Please remember this and the precedent set after 1.0.
This thread is rather interesting to read. As you see the same arguments being used today: lore and they opposite gender would be “too weird”(make miq’toe) or “too ugly”(fem roe and highlander).FFXIV has commonly been lauded as a welcoming space for a diverse range of players, but recent decisions — from in-game items to the latest news — are sending a vastly different message. The female Hrothgar concept ideas I seen look amazing and I’m disappointed they weren’t included not sure what the reason could be.. Male Viera and female Hrothgar could be done masculine and feminine soo many different ways.

Its odd to me because FFXIV is a continuous project which makes at least 6-7 million USD a month, going off of the 'active' accounts(basic sub is around $12, some time ago they said they had over 500,000 active subs). Active being people who have done the raubahn thing, it doesn't count all subscribed accounts. That amount doesn't include retainer fees, optional items, and is likely quite a bit less then their monthly revenue. Surely they can shift a bit of the revenue onto game development and away from other projects.
