Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Finally finished setting up my forum account to add my support to this. This was just a really regressive decision on behalf of the devs. As a foreign player I honestly don’t have faith that our input is ever considered on stuff like this, but I hope the message is at least conveyed that we hope they’ll reconsider.

Lore exists to ENHANCE the enjoyment a player gets out of a game. It’s there to facilitate bringing the world to life and our characters to life within it. When your lore becomes restrictive to the point that it hinders the players ability to harmlessly enjoy the game in the manner of their choosing, it stops being fun and starts feeling needlessly punitive.

This was something the devs acknowledged and embraced back when 2.0 launched, but it feels like they’ve forgotten the ethos for the decision they made back then to scrap gender-locked races. I’m frustrated by this development, but more than anything I’m saddened that I anticipated exactly this outcome so I can’t even say that I’m hurt or surprised, as it matches a lot of weird gender-locked decisions they’ve made as of late.

I’ve lost a lot of faith that the team is willing to hear us out - lately it feels like Yoshida is treating fan feedback as more of a nuisance than a necessity - so I’m not sure this will accomplish anything. But I’d feel even more frustrated if I didn’t say anything, so I guess I’ve got nothing to lose.

Yup, adding my support in removing genderlock races.
Even if you don't want to play them, more options in a MMORPG is generally a good thing!

I feel like SE dug themselves into a hole with their reveal of Hrothgar. Cause now people (myself included) are just going to badger them until we unlock both of them. At the very least, they could've of flat out said No when asked about male Viera, instead of just playing coy.

SE has only themselves to blame for any blow back they may receive.

Overall kinda funny how getting that outfit was apparently such big deal, and then I've maybe seen one player using one.

I see it often around aether, and most of the time on guys rather than ladies.

But yeah, they're going to be badgered by it. A lot. I'm going to see if there's any way to leave direct feedback to SE while I'm in Tokyo. Something like, go to their cafe, 5* the food, then in the comments "please give male Viera and female Hroth. Also the waiter was superb, great service"
Because not only did they disappoint everyone yes hoping for male Viera, they now created, with their own hands, another crowd that will not be satisfied - the lady Hroth wanting crowd.

I've seen them around on multiple worlds. They're not overly common, but they're around. I see the bunny ears a ton, the full outfit is... well, less so.

+1 on this as well. As someone who planned from the start to be female Viera, having my friends not be able to play what they wanted is bittersweet.

I feel extra bad for the people looking forward to Fem Hrothgar during all the speculation only to have it crushed on stage with a smile.

Idk if any amount of customization makes that worth it when the most important to most people is playing the gender they want to.

Do some surveys at least, please. Most probably would prefer the models being similar so they can have svelte bunny boys and buff cat girls.

Yes please to both male Viera and female Hrothgar, gender locks are an archaic game design that has no business in this MMO.

Popping in to add my +1 for male Viera/female Hrothgar. The lore shouldn't come over players' enjoyment, not when we already have stuff like a Nier raid, a car mount, rathalos, yokai watch stuff, all implemented or coming soon, that prove lore can be bent for the sake of fun! We got Miqo'te male, Roegadyn female, and Highlander female in 2.0, please consider removing the gender lock on these new races in the future, too.
